Position Summary
This is a role in the E&P IT organisation, fulfilling the position of Domain Solution Architect with special accountability for the subsurface application portfolio. This role will be key to shaping the design of business solutions to deliver strategic value to BG Group.
The role will work closely with strategy and business demand teams in E&P IT and directly with business stakeholders to provide inputs and challenge to solution designs as well as direction and advice on 3-year E&P technology road maps. The role will also develop, set and manage domain-specific architecture standards and ensure compliance with Global IT’s Architecture standards.Additionally, the role will have primary responsibility for overseeing the process for continually right-sizing the E&P subsurface application portfolio, and for architecture in the subsurface, development and geosciences domains.Other key activities include:
- Integrating information from business strategies and portfolios to develop the overall technical strategic direction, architecture, functionality, integration and quality for the subsurface technology portfolio.
- Providing architecture assistance and work products to E&P IT project teams (up to 50% of the role’s total time commitment).
- Overseeing the activities of project architects within a defined set of project teams and ensuring project team compliance with technology standards.
- Coordinating necessary processes to review and right-size the subsurface application portfolio on a regular basis and integrating this information into 3-year technology road maps.

Key Accountabilities
- Support business roadmap development with the E&P Strategy function and Programme Portfolio planning.
- Ensure alignment with BG Group’s architecture vision, standards and guidelines.
- Be the single point of contact for E&P Domain Solution Architecture across subsurface programmes, owning architecture deliverables such as Core Solutions, Solution Options and Solution Blueprints.
- Create E&P subsurface future-state technology architectures and technology roadmaps.
- Develop, maintain and coordinate the subsurface application portfolio plan.
- Manage the expectations of the business-facing demand management personnel as to which proposals will be developed.
- Actively participate in forward planning and roadmap activities led by the E&P Architecture Manager and strategy and demand teams.
- Demonstrate thought leadership on how best to leverage emerging technologies.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Education / Qualifications:
- Degree qualified (ideally within Engineering or IT) or equivilant
- TOGAF9 Enterprise Architecture.
Experience required:
- Extensive experience in providing high-level architectural solutions to E&P projects.
- Recognised as an IT expert in multiple functional and technical areas relating to E&P subsurface (Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics and Production Technology).
- Experience in subsurface tools supporting E&P surface workflows.
- Able to communicate and work effectively at all levels, from Senior Manager/Technical Subject Matter Expert level within BG Group or JV organisations, to end users and project delivery teams.
- Experience in an IT Architecture methodology covering Business Process Mapping, Application Architecture, Integration Architecture.
- Experience in Domain Architecture within the oil and gas industry, with a primary focus on E&P subsurface.
- Experience defining architecture for business solutions in the oil and gas industry, with a primary focus on E&P.
Knowledge required:
- Professional knowledge of Domain/Solution Architecture.
- Understanding of oil and gas industry best practice for Solutions Architecture.
- Deep understanding of key business processes in the oil and gas industry related to Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics and Production Technology.
- Understanding of development and project management processes and methodologies, including common roles, responsibilities and key deliverables.
- Understanding and deep experience in application portfolio management and modelling activities.
- Experience working for a large international consulting company considered a plus.
