British Council Vacancy for Professional Skills Centre Manager, Kenya Nairobi

Role Purpose
To lead the development and growth of the Professional Skills initiative in Kenya, to achieve business plan targets and regional and global strategic objectives. Through this work the role will assist in positioning the British Council and the UK as a leading authority in skills for employability in Kenya and as the partner of choice for key decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.Main Accountabilities
Strategy and planning (15%)
Use management information, analysis and personal operating experience to identify and make recommendations and improvements to the Kenya’s Professional Skills Centre’s ways of working, processes, procedures and resources to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Contribute to the regional and country strategic vision to ensure that Professional Skills is aligned with and integrated into wider plans.
Produce a strategic plan for the expansion of the Professional Skills offer, which aligns to country and regional plans, to set the direction for the team and ensure SBU targets can be met.
Regularly monitor performance and report to the Professional Skills Network team as well as country teams to feed into the strategic direction of the project.
Carry out detailed operations planning and oversee its implementation so that the day-to-day operations of the Professional Skills Centre run smoothly
Finance and Resource Management (10%)
Develop financial plans to achieve annual and long-term business objectives and meet the agreed commercial targets in country Implement business plans, monitor costs and income, and manage changes
Maintain financial controls and contribute to British Council financial reporting processes by providing timely and accurate information on income and expenditure to country and Professional Skills Network teams.
Risk Management (5%)
Use standard corporate protocols, combined with previous experience and detailed knowledge of the local socio-political and commercial context, to assess a range of risks to service delivery
Ensure appropriate contingency plans are in place and implemented to manage delivery safely and effectively in challenging or high risk circumstances
Monitor and develop customer care procedures and policies to ensure that the highest standards are met, and to inform and enable continuous improvement in the quality of service/programme and product delivery
Commercial and business development (50%)
Feed into British Council’s regional marketing strategy for sub Saharan Africa to ensure a joined-up approach to marketing and achieve economies of scale
Implement the Professional Skills global marketing strategy to raise awareness of the skills work done by British Council Kenya
Undertake marketplace analysis to ensure cutting edge products and services are on offer to meet the changing needs of the market and meet demand
Evaluate competitor products, services and marketing strategies to ensure the British Council’s point of difference is clear in the various markets
Seek to understand the needs of major current and potential clients by building and maintaining strong relationships, listening to and acting on feedback to feed into product, marketing and business development strategies
Lead the negotiation of professional training contracts, including the production of proposals drawing appropriately on the input and expertise of other colleagues, to ensure that the Professional Skills Centre achieves the planned operational and strategic objectives.
Coordinate with Professional Skills Network team and Kenya training team to commission and develop programmes that will meet client needs and British Council quality standards
People management (15%)
Directly line manage one to two non-training staff as well as up to 10 trainers
Carry out recruitment and induction of team members and other staff as required to create an effective Professional Skills team with a very clear sense of shared purpose
Oversee trainer observations, professional development sessions and performance management to ensure a pool of high-quality, experienced professional trainers
High-level academic management (5%)
Oversee reviews of products and services and feed into product strategies to create a high-quality, innovative and sustainable product offer
Other
Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality standards are being achieved and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best Professional Skills practices
Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

Any other duties necessary to support the business and wider aims of Professional Skills in Kenya

Role Requirements
Must have the right to work in Kenya
High Proficiency in English
Substantial and continued experience (approx. 5 years) in training/academic management and/or project management and delivery, including for external clients to contractual requirements.

Qualifications
Undergraduate/university degree
Relevant teaching or Training qualification or Master’s Degree
