Context of the position
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protection of the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it.
Within the Eastern and Southern Africa region, SOS CV International is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and has member associations in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia/Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Angola and Madagascar.
Job Summary
The Brand and Communications Advisor drives the regional brand strengthening process to enable one consistent brand based on the overall mission of SOS Children’s Villages. He/she facilitates and supports the implementation of the global brand frame and makes sure sufficient room is provided for local and regional adaptations. He/she is also responsible for gathering and producing internal and external communications messages and material throughout the region and in line with the global directions. He/She will work closely with the advocacy and fund development team to develop and send out necessary communications. Is responsible for developing and disseminating all profiling communications materials in the region. In coordination with relevant staff members in the organization lead, develop and disseminate internal and external communications regarding crisis, disaster and emergencies in the region. He/she is part of both the HROD and Communications & Brand networks and as such, contributes fully to the global teams and ensures that the regional perspective is understood and represented.

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
Lead and provide guidance in the development and implementation of Communications Strategy to promote SOS CVI vision & mission and International’s visibility in the Region (Eastern & Southern Africa), strengthening advocacy, programme effectiveness and fundraising opportunities in coordination with the MA Strategy as well as engaging SOS CV International wider federation.
Support in the development of high quality, well researched, and well written products. This may include, but not limited to: annual reports, success stories, tweets, blog and Facebook post, etc.
Make sure that events calendar is managed leveraging national and international moments to maximize communications, advocacy and fundraising opportunities.
Make sure that there is a cordial and positive relationship with all key media houses and proactively ensure consistent media coverage of events and development programmes in the region.
Make sure that there is a coherent and consistent brand image in the Region and ensuring all projects are aligned to the Global SOS CVI Branding Guidelines
Implement brand and internal and external communication standards in the region and promote the intranet and global brand standards with National Associations in the region
Support Member Associations (MAs) in organizing the brand strengthening process and contribute to further develop a common brand and internal communication meaning, building the capacity at MA level through regular knowledge sharing, coaching and direction
Monitor and evaluate the brand strengthening process in the region, drive brand integration and report to the International Director Region on progress and challenges
Support MAs to monitor and evaluate the regional brand key touch point analyze/ monitoring and support the implementation of brand-related key documents
Research and produce internal and external communication content proactively (stories, interviews, short videos, brochures, etc.) and in collaboration with the global Editor team be the region’s chief editor for intranet content shared by others.
Drive internal communications from the promotion of informal user generated content (i.e. blogs, social media (e.g. community sites), wikis etc.)
Represent the region in the GSC brand and HROD networks (attend meetings and phone conferences, support strategic planning) and share best practices, progresses and challenges. In both networks, contribute the regional perspective on the global actions and directives to ensure that they are relevant in our context
Enable and consult managers and co-workers; run and facilitate the trainings across the region as directed and appropriate
Ensure links to other functions and networks / act as a bridge-builder within the organization in order to make best use of synergies between processes (e.g. Children´s Villages Programme Policy implementation process, identification, positioning, emergency, etc.)
In coordination with relevant staff members in the organization lead, develop and disseminate internal and external communications regarding crisis, disaster and emergencies in the region.
Ensure alignment of messaging during crises and all relevant staff are oriented on the messaging.
Serve as the regional office spokesperson when delegated by the senior management.
Technical qualifications and personal skills:
Previous Brand, marketing, communications experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a related position/sector.
Excellent writing skills and capacity to train others in solid writing and communication skills
Very good command of English and another working language would be an asset
Ability to communicate and interact with senior management and other key stakeholders
Knowledge and skills on crises communication
Very good computer skills (Social media, MS Office, MS SharePoint, HTML or Photoshop are an asset). Advanced technical skills for: FB, Twitter, Blogging, Instagram etc. is important.
Skills in networking, motivating people and team playing
Organizational and negotiating skills; experience in diplomacy and discretion required
Good skills as a presenter, trainer and strong communicator in-person as well as online
Display the values of cooperation, respect and openness when interacting with staff and other relevant stakeholders.
