The British Council in Nigeria has been contracted by the UK’s Department for International Development to manage the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP). The British Council works in partnership with International Alert and with Social Development Direct. The implementation phase of this five year programme will start in August 2012.The British Council is now looking for suitably qualified individuals to complement the existing team and to fill the following posts:

 

In Abuja:

•Security Coordinator

The duties of the posts are given below.

 

Security Coordinator

  • The management and development of the security system for the NSRP including the enhancement of the management plan, the strategic operating procedures and the updating of the operating context
  • Liaison on all issues relating to safety and security with appropriate agencies, institutions and individuals
  • The appropriate training and updating of staff in Abuja and all regional offices on all issues relating to safety and security

 

Resources Officer

  • Ensuring the programme’s resources function supports the programme requirements and operations to the highest possible standards.
  • Responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective deployment of programme resource facilities

 

Procurement Officer

  • Ensuring the programme procurement strategy and plans are developed and implemented to client and corporate standards.
  • Building, maintaining and managing relationships with the programme’s core suppliers.
  • Management of the programme’s asset register.
  • Ensuring the management and regular updating of the Approved Suppliers Listing
  • Ensuring NSRP achieves value for money through its procurement process.

 

Programme Officers

  • The successful implementation of specified projects and ensuring client, corporate and programme standards are fully met.
  • Ensuring specified project activities are accurately costed and budgets are managed effectively.
  • Timely and accurate support to financial and technical reporting.

NIGERIA – EXAMS OFFICER

The British Council in Nigeria is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join fill the post of ‘Exams Officer’.

Context:
Nigeria Exams is the largest British Council exams business in the Sub Saharan Africa region. It administers exams in four subject areas: Schools, Professional/Vocational, Educational on behalf of UK institutions and IELTS. In 2011-12 we will deliver roughly 65,000 exams to 25,000 candidates. The team comprises 19 people and are based mainly in Lagos with two in Abuja and three in Port Harcourt.

Job aim:

To support Examination Services in Nigeria in delivering Professional and Educational exams and to maintain them at the highest professional standards as set out in the British Council’s EQS (Examination Quality Standards) and by the relevant examination boards.

Responsibilities:
•As Exams Officer the post holder will be line managed by the Centre Manager of Port Harcourt.
•All administrative procedures are in full compliance with examination board regulations and EQS standards.
•Reliability: to ensure examinations are delivered securely according to board requirements
•Quality: to deliver a high standard of customer service to our schools and their candidates. As measured by our own Exams Quality Standards and the inspection visits from Examination Boards.
•Finance: all British Council standards for managing finances are met with relation to income reconciliations, cash handling, managing POs, managing contracts and procurement.

NIGERIA – IELTS EXAMINERS

The British Council in Nigeria is looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS Examiners.

Outline:
Examiners conduct one to one interviews with IELTS candidates to assess their spoken English according to set requirements. Examiners also assess written scripts produced by candidates under exam conditions. Examiners are recruited on a casual basis and are expected to examine at least ten sessions a year at regular intervals. Remuneration is paid per interview/script. Weekend working is usually required. IELTS examinations regularly take place in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Therefore, we are looking for examiners who live in, or within relatively easy reach of these cities. We may occasionally run examinations in other cities in Nigeria.

Requirements:
•An undergraduate degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate degree.

•A recognised qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) / Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)  / or recognised equivalent as part of a recognised university award course.**

•At least 3 years full time (14 hours per week minimum or the equivalent part time) relevant TESOL/TEFL teaching experience (minimum one year post certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).
