Job description
¿ Reports directly to the General Manager.
¿ Appointed in terms of Sect 3.1(a) of the MHSA.
¿ Ensure compliance to the MHSA.
¿ Appoint subordinates as prescribed by the MHSA.
¿ The Mine Manager is responsible for the safe, profitable performance of the business unit.
¿ To ensure compliance with regard to the MHSA & Regulations.
¿ Ensure the quality and quantity of ROM product delivered to the beneficiation plant.
Planning Mine Operations
Establishes a mine plan for FZO.
Prepares annual (and five year) operating budget for the mine for the General Mine Manager.
Prepares annual (and five year) CAPEX budget for the mine for the General Mine Manager.
Planning includes all surface infra structure within area of responsibility.
Controls Operations
Recommends expenditure for approval. Authority limit for approvals: R100,000
Ensures that the policies and standards of the TCSA are communicated and implemented.
Conducts checks / inspections on a regular basis.
Prepares reports on financial and operational performance of the mine in the prescribed manner.
Keeps the General Mine Manager informed of all developments which currently affect and may, in future, impact on the mine.
Asset Management Process
¿ Provide guidance and advice to subordinates with respect to the implementation and operation of the Pragma system, or any ERP implemented.
¿ To include the monthly status in the balanced scorecard meeting agenda.
Projects
Implements new projects as provided for in CAPEX budget arranging contractors and other suppliers.
Controls project delivery to ensure these are achieved on time and on budget.
Organizing Resources
Ensures appropriate contractor capacity is in place to achieve production targets.
Ensures that contractors are in full compliance with all standards and legal requirements.
Liaison
Liaises with the community around the mine, resolving issues and maintaining good relations.
Liaises with government structures as required for compliance and other purposes.
Required skills
Education
¿ Diploma / Degree / BSc in Mining Engineering.
¿ Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
¿ Registered with the SA Colliery Managers Association.
¿ Mine Managers Certificate of Competence (Coal Mines).
¿ Minimum of 7 – 10 years experience in Coal Mining Environment.
¿ Experience in assessing management principles around mining and related equipment and associated operational standards.
Experience
Minimum of 7 – 10 years experience in Coal Mining Environment.
Skills
Computer literacy.
Presentation skills.
Demonstrate an ability to plan, organize and lead.
Think analytically, systematically and laterally.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Drivers license.

Technical competence of mining & explosives environment.
