Job Description:

The Automation Team Leader leads manufacturing engineering and drives the use of new technologies and automation to bring greater efficiencies, lower costs, better quality, and safety to all manufacturing and technology centers. The candidate will introduce new machining methods and automated equipment, specifically, robotics.The position reports to the Automation & Manufacturing Technology Manager.

Successful Automation Team Leaders have knowledge of manufacturing technologies and understand the architecture, specification, and hardware design of motion control systems including servo and industrial drives. They are experienced with automated systems, assembly lines realization, industrial robots, force based assistance robotics, and collaborative robots. They are self-motivated, can work independently with little direction, and have the capacity to make decisions and set priorities. With effective interpersonal and communication skills they can elicit cooperation from upper management, product group teams, manufacturing sites, external experts, suppliers, and customers. They have strong leadership qualities, work well in a team environment, can meet deadlines, and are willing to travel internationally.
Responsibilities

  • Identifies opportunities and implements new manufacturing technologies, processes, and equipment.
  • Recommends corrective or preventive actions to assure or improve product quality or reliability.
  • Monitors or measures manufacturing processes to identify ways to reduce losses, decrease time requirements, and improve quality.
  • Provides design input based on manufacturability and assists with startup and development of manufacturing processes.
  • Develops best practices and standardization in tooling and machining.
  • Maintains close contact with key universities and greater industry technology hubs, and advises upper management on manufacturing technology road maps.
  • Mentors product groups manufacturing technology engineers.
  • Keeps current with all safety codes including NFPA, SME, NEC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical, industrial, manufacturing or mechatronics preferred.
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in factory automation.
  • Experience with developing software and controls for robotics and automation; beneficial skills include: C++ and Python software development, Karel (Fanuc), KRL (Kuka), Rapid (ABB), ROS, OpenCV, SolidWorks, AutoCAD electrical, Labview Robotics Module, Matlab, Linux.
  • Experience with industrial robotics, mobile robotics, 2D/3D computer vision, path and grasp planning for robotics, machine learning, perception/sensing for robot guidance.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
