Regional Research Manager
Job Introduction
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity.  Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world through creative programming and media strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East and North Africa. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.  This position will be part of the BBC Media Action Research team and will report into the Head of Research
Role Responsibility
This position will involve strengthening evidence for our work, particularly in the governance theme – working with countries and projects to do this; management of specific research projects/portfolios as needed and providing leadership in key areas for the team to deliver to the research strategy e.g. knowledge sharing, capacity strengthening. A significant proportion of the role will be acting as a senior governance adviser working with countries to understand their theories of change, develop projects and build evidence.  This part of the role will be task managed by the Head of Advisory.  This role will involve providing technical support to the development and evolvement of governance projects. You will support the Head of Advisory in sharing learning in London and in-country programmes and engage with other teams and support the quality of organisation-wide thinking and delivery.  It will also require you to develop partnership with organisations who specialise in governance.
Are you the right candidate?
This role will expect you to have a proven record of achievement in research, an in depth knowledge of research techniques gained through significant experience  of  social research across different populations and contexts and the media and governance sectors. You will have the ability to devise new and creative ways of exploiting research data, along with the ability to take research beyond data to insights and action using multiple datasets in one narrative. You’ll have a thorough understanding of media and development sector and the research standards required. This position will need you to have experience of managing staff and working effectively with internal/external stakeholders.  This will require strong technical oversight and communication. You’ll have strong quantitative analytical skills, particularly working creatively with existing data sources / large data sets including  use of SPSS, including multivariate and segmentation techniques, and strong qualitative analysis and use of participatory techniques. You will also have the ability to present research in a compelling way to multiple stakeholders to ensure that insights are taken up – includes writing blogs, presenting at conferences and working with country research managers to disseminate findings – Effective IT skills – able to manipulate spreadsheets and analytical tools and software and familiarity with appropriate applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Tableau
