Job description
Practical experience in the use and deployment of BI systems along with in-depth knowledge of supporting database technology are the core requirements. Experience in a presales role would be advantageous however we would actively support a candidate with suitable technical skills who has the aptitude and willingness to grow presales experience.

The mission of the Pre Sales Team is to provide high quality solution support that positively influences Cognos sales, provides prospective customers with an honest and accurate vision of Cognos’ products and services and ensures existing customers continue to have a valuable partnership with Cognos. Duties are varied and include, but are not limited to:

• Completing responses to prospect / customer requests for proposals / information
• Running needs analysis sessions with prospects and customers
• Completing discovery / solution maps and other Value Selling Process (VSP) collateral and initiatives
• Delivering standard demonstrations to prospects in accordance with VSP techniques
• Building and delivering custom demonstrations in accordance with VSP techniques
• Building relationships with key influencers / players in the prospect / customer organization
• Assisting account managers and sales management through all the key stages in the sales cycle
• Facilitating the transfer of skills and product knowledge to Cognos colleagues, partners and customers.

o SQL and/or MDX authoring
o Stored Procedure Creation
o Query performance tuning
o Exposure to ETL tools and techniques
o Data modeling

Plan the Transmission Systems according to Radio, Core and IP requirements

KPA duties

Strategy Development
•Participate in the translation of the transmission strategy and architecture into long range plans
•Assist in formulating inputs towards technology strategy.
•Assist in delivering a target Product and Services architecture with a 3 year time horizon taking global technology developments into consideration

Planning & Delivery
•Responsible for the timely planning of all Transmission networks within MTN e.g. PTP / PMP microwave networks, Fibre networks, RANO networks, DXX / SDH networks, etc.
•Assist in defining 1-year budget
•Prioritise access/core transmission network growth
•Drive execution of near term plans
•Forecast capacity and traffic and align with Radio, Core & IP plans and with strategy and roadmap
•Ensure correct planning of Transmission w.r.t fixed and mobile operator interconnections where required
•Plan transport capacity across access, backhaul and backbone infrastructure to support all of MTN’s bandwidth requirements
•Evaluate new Access and Core Backbone Transmission Network Equipment and Specifications
•Identify geographical location for equipment to be installed
•Request funding and issue request for purchasing (RfP) to vendor, verify bill of material and confirm order of equipment and services
•Verify configuration
•Ensure implementation of Transmission plans is carried out fully with a smooth handover to Network Operations for cutover and integration into the live network
•Ensure that policies, procedures and quality standards are adhered to in the planning process

Network Optimisation & Performance
•Ensure quality objectives are met and maintained
•Ensure future proof transmission plans to guarantee deliverables are met according to customer requirements both internal and external
•Track and report on performance problems and performance improvements on division level
•Investigate performance issues and identify changes required on division level
•Review design and drive optimisation changes
•Tender evaluations and formulations
•Provide high level support on the planned network/technologies

Communication and co-ordination
•Ensure communication of plans and integration of feedback
•Prepare implementation and integration documentation

Educational requirements

Education:
B Degree or National Technical Diploma with relevant experience

Background / General description:
IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is the largest multilateral provider of financing
for private enterprise in emerging markets. IFC provides loans, equity, structured finance and risk management tools, as well as advisory services to build the private sector in developing countries. The Mining Engineer will contribute to the strategic planning and execution of IFC s involvement in the mining sector, fully participating in new business development, investment appraisal and portfolio supervision activities. As an industry specialist, the Mining Engineer will play an important role in helping IFC meet client needs, promote positive and sustainable development outcomes and thereby fulfill the Corporation s broader mandate for poverty reduction. Although expected to bring strong technical skills to his/her work, the successful candidate must have also sufficient industry experience to exercise sound business and commercial judgment. The position will be based in IFC s Johannesburg office. However, the successful candidate will be expected to spend the first 18 months in Washington DC as part of the induction process and familiarization with IFC s global business operations.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will:
evaluate new exploration mining and smelting projects, conduct due diligence through desk review and site visits (significant travel is required to meet the job requirements).
help supervise the existing investment portfolio.
keep abreast of current industry practice and advise IFC industry and regional staff on general industry trends and issues.
in coordination with the technical team lead by the Chief Mining Engineer, take a lead role in compiling and disseminating relevant sector knowledge.
contribute to the formulation and implementation of strategic planning and business development for the IFC s mining investments.
Selection Criteria:
Undergraduate degree in engineering or geology with emphasis on mining, mineral processing, or smelting. A post-graduate degree in a relevant area of specialization would be a plus.
Broad experience (10 years+) in the mining industry combining operations, project development and consultancy to have a deep understanding of the interface between technology, operations management, technical parameters and financial viability of mineral projects.
Familiarity with the metals mining industry is of particular advantage, as is working experience in emerging markets.
Expertise in some of the following areas: ore resources/reserves, mining techniques, mine planning, mineral processing, smelting and refining, project development, environmental and social considerations, cost estimation (capital and operating), project engineering and construction, feasibility studies, competitive positioning and benchmarking, and markets for metals and industrial minerals.
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, in English; fluency in one or more of other major languages is a plus.
Computer literacy is required.

Development Consultant, West & Southern Africa Division
I. GENERAL INFORMATION:

TechnoServe, Inc. is an international nonprofit development organization founded in 1968. Its mission is to help entrepreneurial men and women in poor rural and urban areas of the developing world to build businesses that create jobs, income and economic opportunity for their families, their communities and their countries.

II. BACKGROUND:

The West and Southern Africa (WSA) division of TechnoServe oversees five country programs (Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Swaziland, and South Africa) and two regional, value chain programs (cocoa and cashew in West Africa). Current (2009) funding for the region is approximately $14 million, but core funding for at least two of the five country programs will be ending in 2010. At the same time, the WSA division is currently targeting new countries to expand its footprint in the region, building on its successes to date particularly in areas such as entrepreneurship and sectors such as horticulture, feed and livestock.

III. PRIMARY PROJECT PURPOSE:

The overall purpose of this consultancy is raise additional funding for the West and Southern Africa division. This will include raising funds both for existing country programs (e.g., sorghum in Ghana) and new business opportunities in a non-presence country (e.g., entrepreneurship in Malawi).

IV. TASKS/ACTIVITIES:

The consultant will work with the WSA team, which includes Regional Director Brent Habig, Deputy Director Leslie Johnston, and Program Manager Holly Krueger, to:

Assess and prioritize new business opportunities across the WSA region
Assist the WSA team in making contact with key donors in target countries through an initial road show
Lead the proposal development process for high priority opportunities, which includes:
Developing the initial lead summary, concept, and budget
Identifying and finalizing in-country partners
Drafting the full proposal, budget, and accompanying materials
Coordinating with TechnoServe DC for revisions and signoffs, as required
Submitting to the donor
Assisting with contract negotiations, as required
Assist with the resource mobilization once proposals are accepted

V. DELIVERABLES:

Robust assessment and prioritization of WSA opportunities
At least five full proposals submitted
