Corporate Communications Manager
World Vision Kenya is a leading non-governmental Christian humanitarian, relief, development and advocacy organization with projects in most parts of Kenya.
We wish to urgently recruit a highly competent, proactive and self-driven person to fill the following position within WV Kenya (To be based in Nairobi)Position: Corporate Communications Manager
Purpose of the position:
To provide strategic leadership to the Kenya Office Communications Department, overseeing the development of key communications resources; directing communications in emergency and crisis situations: and effectively linking the World Vision Kenya with the World Vision Partnership, key Support Offices, media, NGOs, donors and other diverse audiences who need to be informed and engaged in the ongoing ministry of WVK.
Provide leadership support to the marketing and local fundraising team in order to grow local resources.
Support the guest relations team to ensure a good and cordial relationship with dignitaries, donors and guests visiting World Vision Kenya and or its projects,
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated communications strategy that positions World Vision Kenya as a leading Christian relief, development and advocacy agency,
Supervise and coordinate World Vision Kenya Communications, Marketing, National Resource Development, and Guest Relations Departments
Plan and.manage all “rapid response” communications in situations of organizational crises, and during the onset of natural disasters or other major emergencies to which World Vision will respond,
Develop and maintain professional contacts with key print and broadcast media, both nationally and internationally
In consultation with the National Director and Regional Communications Director, develop an annual communications plan,
Provide media training and related support to the National Director as the principal media spokesperson, and/or other key staff as required.
Develop a communications plan for public relations crises which could result in damaging media coverage for World Vision Kenya Office
Identify and train Zonal and project team leaders to provide detailed information on their projects and beneficiaries and to identify potential media and marketing stories which can lead to increased donor support and public awareness.
Nurture and develop cordial relationships with the potential WVK partners
Manage the planning and production of feature stories, publicity materials, press releases, photographs, videos, Partnership marketing resources and other strategic and targeted communications as required.
Maintain close contacts with the Regional Communications director and key communications and advocacy staff within major support offices of World Vision.
Ensure that World Vision Kenya is engaged in important regional and international communications and advocacy initiatives of the World Vision Partnership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A Masters Degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Media relations International Relations or related field
Sound understanding and experience in media relations, donor and public communications, emergency communications, advocacy communications and internal communications,
At least five years professional experience in journalism or public relations.
Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills also preferred.
Ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills,
Ability to travel and work in the field as an essential function of the position.
Proven record of leadership and team management skills
Good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems
