The University’s History
We are proud of our long and fascinating history at the University of Reading. Our tradition of academic excellence dates back to the late nineteenth century and owes much to the vision and generosity of several notable individuals.
Our origins lie in the Schools of Art and Science established in Reading in 1860 and 1870. These became part of an extension college opened in 1892 by Christ Church, Oxford. The college thrived, receiving its first treasury grant in 1901. Three years later the local Palmer family, of the famous biscuit manufacturer Huntley & Palmers, donated our London Road site. Their continued support helped to fund expansion, including the opening of Wantage Hall in 1908 and The Research Institute in Dairying in 1912. We received a Royal Charter in 1926, the only university to do so between the two world wars. At the same time, Dr William M Childs became the University’s first Vice-Chancellor.
Milestones
Since then a number of milestones have shaped the University’s history and made us the centre of excellence and vibrant community that we are today. In 1947 we purchased our main Whiteknights campus, the former country estate of the Marquis of Blandford. Our merger with Bulmershe College of Higher Education in 1989 added our third campus, a 17 hectare site in Earley close to Whiteknights and in 2008, the merger with Henley Management College gave us our Greenlands campus.
Achievements
Important achievements include:
being the first British university to integrate an industrial Research and Development Group on its campus (1972)
being the first university to win the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement (1989)
receiving the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education three times(1998, 2006 and 2009).
Established as a leading force in British higher education, we continue to build on our success. Our ambitious multi-million pound investment programme is delivering twenty-first century facilities, strengthening our international reputation for quality teaching, research and enterprise.

global standards; Presently I was working in ZAMBIA as SENIOR PRODUCTION MANAGER in MUSA BISCUITS LTD and Prior to
MUSA BISCUITS LTD I had working experience in CHICCO Biscuits -ZAMBIA as PRODUCTION MANAGER and and was
in Batul investments as assigned Consultant ……..for 3 months my achieve ments are detailed in my C.V.
Presently working as FACTORY MANAGER in the biggest Biscuits industry, and my accomplishments given in attached.
I can efficiently handle and manage all production activities from the Receipt of materials ,Mixing , Baking , Packing , and
stock and forwarding ….etc
I may state that I am proficient in making Receipe formulations for any varieties of BISCUITS, BREAD, CAKES, TOFFEE, AND CANDY.
I have Hands on experience in all the mentioned above .Also I can handle factory production operations of any volume upto your utmost
satisfaction.
I can raise the PRODUCTION and PRODUCTIVITY to the highest level by applying GMP , GHP and reduce the
wastage to bare minimum to maximize PROFITABILITY
I have a novel TREND SET TECHNOLGY in BISCUITS and BAKERY industry , by which COST of MANUFACTURING can be
REDUCED with INCREASED taste and bite of any bakery products.
My duties and responsibilities in MUSA BISCUITS were,
# ( 1 ) Member of Production budget.
( 2 ) Development of New variety of Biscuits.
( 3 ) Development of New packaging.
( 4 ) Member for Costing in collabrating with Accounts personnel.
( 5 ) Responsible for Raw material selection and approval.
( 6 ) Responsible for Commercial Production of Biscuits on fully automated production lines ( LAZER- ITALY )
( 7 ) Control and direct all the production personnel.
( 8 ) Co -ordination with logistics for material procrument.
( 9 ) Responsible for Training and developement of employees.
(10) Responsible for inventory control of raw -materials & production modules.
(11) Responsible for Quality assurance System , improvement and taking care of Quality control.
(12) Responsible for Maximum use of machinery and man-power &optimizing production performanance.
(13) Co-ordination with installed machine manufacturers in extension of the plant.
(14) Co-ordination with Sales & Marketing to develope and promote new products and new packaging methods.
(15) Implement ,control, and improve GMP and GHP to maximize PRODUCTION and PRODUCTIVITY.
(16) Co-ordination with HR for the planning, recruitment ,orientation training, and performance appraisal of all production staff.
(17) Responsible for set-up of new automated production plant. NEW LAZER -PLANT–ITALY.
