Group Functions are the central core of non-technical expertise behind the smooth day-to-day running of BG Group’s business. This area comprises professionals in Finance, Human Resources, Investor Relations, Legal, Policy & Corporate Affairs, Secretariat and Strategy & Portfolio Development. Together they provide strategic direction and support to our Group Executive Committee, Business area managers, and Asset Management teams, helping to underpin our frontline business activities.

Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Principal Tax Adviser to work within our Corporate Tax Reporting & Planning Team based at our Reading, UK offices.
The function of the Corporate Tax Reporting & Planning Team is to;
  • Manage the corporate income tax charge of the Group.
  • The calculation of the corporate income tax disclosures within the Group financials.
  • Dealing with all aspects of tax accounting and quarterly/year end reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with UK tax filing obligations whilst at the same time ensuring that tax returns are filed in the most tax efficient manner.
  • Management of HMRC enquiries.
  • Management and updating of Group tax policies and documentation.
  • Assisting other Tax Teams in the tax accounting and UK of tax consequences of various transactions.
Key Accountabilities
  • Preparing and reporting of accurate tax numbers in a timely manner for internal forecasting purposes and for the annual Group consolidated accounts and quarterly press releases.
  • Responsibility for preparation and completion of tax provision and notes to the accounts for UK statutory accounts.
  • To assist in the preparation and completion of the petroleum revenue tax returns.
  • Preparation of UK corporation tax computations for a number of corporate and trading subsidiaries.
  • This includes minimising the tax payable of the group by undertaking relevant research where necessary.
  • Dealing with HMRC correspondence/enquiries efficiently and in a timely manner. Developing relationships with HMRC and dealing with tax technical issues.
  • Assisting the Business Tax Team during significant transactions, such as the disposal/acquisition of UK entities/assets.
  • Assisting with corporate tax planning initiatives.
  • Assisting in calculating any Transfer Pricing adjustments.
  • Responsibility for managing and updating Group tax policies, systems and documentation and reviewing the impact of new tax laws, tax accounting standards and tax practices upon the Group.
  • Assist in the preparation of the controlled foreign companies and R&D review.
  • Assist in maintaining strong control environment in accordance with the Financial Controls Assurance Programme.
  • Ad hoc tax work as required.
