Job purpose:

BBC Media Action works in partnership with local media agencies, civil society organisations, and governments to achieve long term development goals. We produce creative media content to inform and engage audiences, and strengthen the media sector by building professional skills and technical capacity.
The Producer will lead the delivery of our Hausa-language Public Service Announcements, taking responsibility for creative, operational and budgeting aspects of the production. BBC Media Action management reserves the right to assign the Producer to other outputs depending on circumstances, project needs or funding.~
Main Duties

• Working under the supervision of the Head of Factual, and liaising with others as needed, brainstorm, plan and produce PSAs on agreed themes.
• Plan recordings, including creating budget, working with Operations to ensure proper logistic preparation and safety, and working with the Sound Engineers to ensure any technical needs for recording are met.
• Recruit and supervise freelancers, including actors and translators, as required and in accordance with BBC guidelines an processes
• Oversee editing and delivery of final programme.
• Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that PSAs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
• Monitor and ensure that expenses are in compliance with production budget.
• Prepare operational reports;
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
• After appropriate training, be able to use a range of audio & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit, sound design and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
Required skills, knowledge and experience

• Native Hausa language skills
• Production background and experience, preferably in the area of Radio PSAs, including working with a tight deliverable timeline and a fixed budget.
• Possess ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in content and ways to improve it
• Experience managing a team and coordinating multiple roles to deliver project outputs on time and in budget.
• Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be well versed in the use of the computer;
• Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal.
• Knowledge of latest production-related technology and techniques, particularly for radio recording.
• Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.
Academic/professional qualification

• A first degree in Mass Communication, Communication Arts, English, Social Sciences or any other relevant field would be an advantage.
