Project Manager (Asia) At BBC Media Action

Job Introduction
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places.   We do this through implementing governance, health and resilience projects in partnership with civil society, local media and governments.
As Project Manager in the Asia team, based in London, you will lead on headquarters support to country teams, ensuring smooth implementation of current projects and securing new business across the region.
Expanded Department
BBC Media Action is largely funded by external grants, mainly from the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, UN agencies and charitable foundations.  Our Asia team currently has offices in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, India and Nepal and projects in Pakistan and Indonesia.
Role Responsibility
As part of the Asia regional team, you will support to our country teams and the Regional Director to ensure the smooth implementation of current projects and to secure new business across the region. You will work with Country Directors and other senior in-country staff, supporting them to recruit staff, implement and report on projects. You will also support business development in the region, by identifying strategic funding opportunities, coordinating creation of editorially compelling projects and writing proposals. In addition, you’ll play a role in building local capacity, including through visits to the countries that you support. You may line manage one member of staff.
Expanded Role
You will liaise with a variety of other BBC and BBC Media Action teams to coordinate their support for projects and ensure delivery of specific components of projects, where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate
You will demonstrate experience of successful project management, gained within the media or development field. This will include experience in working with contracts, ideally with international development donors, alongside concrete experience of securing new business, including proposal writing. Importantly, you will also bring strong financial skills, which will include experience of preparing, monitoring and managing complex budgets. These skills will be supplemented by your strong communication ability, particularly written English, and a demonstrable interest in Asia.
Expanded Requirements
Experience in the second area of media or development is highly desirable, as is development field experience in Asia. You must already have the right to work in the UK.
