BBS Media Action Job Vacancy for Research Editor

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.

Role Responsibility

As Research Editor you will be responsible for helping to lead the editorial process around BBC Media Action outputs which span the Policy and Learning Department team. This position will require you to shape the narrative structure fora variety of research outputs, ranging from longer reports which are quite data intensive papers to shorter research briefings. You will provide the authors with detailed written feedback on all drafts and guide the editorial process through until the work is of an acceptable standard. You will manage and resolve editorial disagreements across relevant departmental staff and feed into a strategic engagement plan around each output. You will need to liaise with the communications team on images, copyedits, layout, and design around each publication. You may be called upon to help organise and deliver writing and communication training to build the skills of colleagues,

The Ideal Candidate

This role will expect you to have outstanding writing and editing skills, matched with a strong capacity to exert leadership in a team environment. You will have proven experience of editing outputs for a range of audiences and across an array of different formats. You will have a demonstrable capacity to decipher insights and findings from research data, both quantitative and qualitative.  This position will require you to have strong knowledge of international development, coupled with familiarity with the layout and design of publications.
