Job description
Fugro Nigeria is looking for an experienced Operations Manager. The main responsibilities are to supervise all project and tendering activities of the operations department, ensuring all project related commercial and operations are executed to the required standard and that results are provided in line with client expectations . Establishes and enforces quality procedures and safety standards and implementation on all projects. Ensures the implementation of Company Management System within the department. Undertake any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required by the General Manager Survey Division from time to time.

Roles And Responsibilities

1.1 Marketing / Commercial

a) Develop markets with General Manager Survey Division in close liaison with the Business Development Manager(s).

b) Sale of services and products to clients directly in accordance with business strategy.

c) Evaluate market trends in the industry, including prices, new technology and market intelligence.

d) Liaise and build client relations and execute and oversee tendering activity.

e) Where applicable, act as focal point for Fugro Opco operations in country.

1.2 Operations

a) Manage safety and security for all project activities.

b) Coordinate and supervise activities in Operations department for efficient operation.

c) Co-ordinate between departments for efficient utilisation of resources.

d) Oversee the Project Manager(s) on ongoing projects for safe, secure and quality project execution in time and on budget.

e) Ensure efficient utilization and appropriate allocation of Offshore Personnel.

f) Ensure staff’s understanding of client needs, maintain liaison with client’s key staff.

g) Consult with clients on a regular basis to ensure projects are handled correctly.

h) Implement QA/QC procedures for all projects in liaison with Project and Department Managers.

i) Resource (personnel and equipment) co-ordination in close liaison with the Technical and Training manager

j) Create and maintain contacts and networks which contribute to achieving goals, internally and externally.

k) Ensure operational procedures are adhered to and instigate and implement continuous improvements.

l) Host weekly /daily operations meetings and drive transparent communication between all departments.

1.3 Financial

a) Outline investment requirements for the department with General Manager.

b) Responsible for defining and meeting annual business line target as per profit plan.

c) Assist in monthly, quarterly reports and annual budgeting forecast review.

d) Prepare project budgets and cash flows.

e) Update financial forecasts for ongoing projects.

f) Ensure monthly project summary reports are received timely.

g) Prepare invoice submission for projects and submit for approval.

h) Approve expense accounts of all staff under his supervision.

1.4 Personnel

a) Drive staff development

b) Supervise assigned staff.

c) Evaluate performance of assigned staff annually.

d) Approve work reports of all staff under his supervision.

e) Advise General Manager on personnel requirements and set out job specifications.

1.5 Administration

a) Maintain project filing system and keep updated at all times.

b) Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly operations reports.

c) Ensure equipment and personnel movements are properly accounted for.

1.6 Specific Additional Duties

a) Stimulate and motivate compliance with and participation in Company QA/HSSE

standards by setting a professional example in QA/HSSE and by recommending

improvements of the QA/HSSE system.

b) Provide Departmental Goals based on Company Goals.

c) Implementation of Company Policy and Company and Departmental Goals.

d) Identify (HSSE) training needs in close liaison with Technical and Training Manager.

e) Stimulate the reporting of accidents / incidents.

f) Ensure action is taken on reported accidents / incidents.

g) If conditions are unsafe liaise with General Manager on suspending project activities.

h) Ensure monthly toolbox meetings for departmental staff.

2. Principal Working Relationship

a) Work with General Manager and Accounts Manager for financial and administrative control of operations.

b) Project Managers: to direct and oversee for profitable and efficient execution of projects.

c) QA/HSSE Manager: to ensure safe and secure execution of operations at all times.

d) Tender Co-ordinators: to direct and oversee for optimal tendering.

e) Technical and Training Manager ensure allocation of adequate resources.

f) ICO Business Line Managers: to share resources effectively.

g) Business Development Manager: to ensure market development activities are in line with profit

plan and commercial strategy plan and commercial strategy .

Requirements

a) M.Sc. / B.Sc. / Bac +2 level in surveying or engineering or equivalent.

b) Min. 5 years experience in project management.

c) Basic accounting principles.

d) Conversant with equipment / software in use.

e) English language.

f) Resident in Lagos (or willing to re-locate)
