Job Introduction

BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help people improve their lives and support them to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.

Role Responsibility

MedMedia is an EU-funded project aimed at supporting the institutions and individuals committed to reforming the media sector in the Southern Mediterranean Region. This role will require you to take overall responsibility of this project and ensure its outputs are planned, managed and delivered in accordance with agreed work-plans, budget and objectives. You will ensure that the development and implementation of the project content is delivered in consultation with BBC Media Action, all its consortium partners and key local stakeholders. You will be responsible for the reporting and audit requirements of the project donor. This position will also require you to propose future strategy for the project and encourage its sustainability, along with taking overall responsibility for ensuring that BBC Media Action and the project are appropriately represented across target countries. You will need to manage senior international project staff and consultants as well as junior local staff. This position is based in Tunis and the location is non-negotiable.

The Ideal Candidate

It is essential that you have demonstrable previous experience in leading a major EU programme, preferably in one or several countries of the ENP South region, and delivering its output to objectives and budget. This position will also require you to have extensive professional experience in the field of journalism and media regulation. As well as strong management skills, you will have strong negotiating skills in order to bring together parties with diverse objectives and agendas. This role will also expect you have a strong understanding of and commitment to international development, including the use of media for developmental goals. You will have strong knowledge and experience of working with the media landscape of the ENP South countries and territories, a deep understanding of EU policies and institutions and experience of operating effectively in difficult, highly politically sensitive and often fluid environments.
