ICRAF Vacancy – Project Site Coordinator – External Advert (Ethiopia)

The Position: The World Agroforestry Centre seeks to recruit Project Site Coordinator who will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the project on “Enhancing Climate Smart and Integrated Watershed management” Research-In-Development project. The Project Site Coordinator is responsible to facilitate and guide the Research-In-Development interventions together with the local partners of ICRAF-Ethiopia.

General: The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry-ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex roles trees play in transforming agriculture, landscapes and rural livelihoods. ICRAF is, thus, working mainly on four cross-sectorial and trans-disciplinary priority themes including, but not limited to: (1) Productive and Resilient Agricultural and Livelihood Systems; (2) Quality and Improved Tree Genetic Resources, Diversity, Products and Value Chains; (3) Land Health, Restoration and Investments; and  (4) Climate, Environmental Services and Landscape Governance. As part of the Centre’s work to bring solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, ICRAF researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new and best-fit technologies, tools and policy recommendations for improved agricultural productivity, food security, livelihood systems, resilience and health of ecosystems. The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct project planning and monitor the project interventions in collaboration with local partners;
  • Conduct regular monitoring visit to the beneficiary farmers participating in the project to ensure their active engagements in the project;
  • Follow up whether priority technologies/practices identified by the beneficiary farmers participating in the project are addressed and assess if the priority technologies/practices are adopted by neighbouring farming communities as best-fit technologies/practices;
  • Facilitate effective project participation (e.g., in project planning, implementation, M&E and scaling learning priorities) and coordinate project meetings with local partners including the regional research institute, Universities, regional bureau of agriculture (with its respective offices in Woreda’s, Kebele’s and local institutions);
  • Establish strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders operating at local level;
  • Organize and provide capacity building including trainings and experience sharing visits to facilitate co-learning between researchers and farmers/peer-to-peer farmers and communities to uptake of best-fit technologies and practices;
  • Facilitate and participate in relevant local and national workshops to share experiences and achievements of project;
  • Follow up and monitor project logistics at local level;
  • Prepare regular final plans required for the implementation project activities and settle project advances as per the Centre’s policy; and
  • Prepare and submit quarter, semi-annual and annual project reports to the project coordinator.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Natural Resources or related disciplines.

Experience: 

  • At least 3 years relevant experience

Skills:    

  • Good technical knowledge on climate smart agriculture and watershed management;
  • Ability to liaise and communicate with regional sectors including Bureau of agriculture and natural resources (and with its respective sectors at Woreda, Kebele and watershed levels), regional research institute, Universities, local and international NGOs and community organizations and other relevant partners;
  • Ability to deliver technical training to farmers, Woreda experts, development agents in local language (Tigrigna);
  • Very good skills in verbal and written (including presentation) English (Very good in verbal and written skills in the local language-Tigrigna, which is spoken in the area where project is being implemented is an added value);
  • Basic capabilities and experiences in financial management;
  • Basic IT skills required for preparing project plans, reports and presentations, and handling &
  • analysing data;
  • Experience in teamwork and people management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and proven networking skills;
  • Experience in project report writing and project coordination (familiarity with the general project
  • region is an added value); and
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.

Duty Station: Tigray

Grade: 2D

Minimum Base: Birr 21,367.00 (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment:  This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.
