BBC Media Action is independent from the BBC, but shares the BBC’s fundamental values and has partnerships with the BBC World Service and national broadcasters that reach millions of people in developing countries. Overview of the roleThe Senior Digital Content Producer will support the Editor in shaping the day’s agenda and lead the editorial team to ensure the delivery of the best and most interesting stories to Libyan audiences, while meeting BBC editorial standards.You will lead the editorial team in producing content, and work with other teams on the project and beyond to offer our digital audiences the best of El Kul’s journalism. The role will develop and implement the social media strategy in line with the online brand and service proposition, working closely with the editorial team.Main duties & responsibilitiesProduce and create distinctive multiplatform contentLead, motivate and support a team, ensuring that the editorial vision is communicated and understood from planning through to deliveryWork effectively with other departments, suppliers & partners (internal & external) ensuring that BBC Media Action maintains excellent relationships throughoutConstruct a full production schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager and EditorEnsure content reflects our diverse audiencesDevelop and implement new and innovative approaches to digital storytelling, demonstrating the ability to tell complex news stories in an engaging way using a variety of text, video, pictures, graphics, animationsGenerate original ideas and make sound editorial decisions based on an in-depth knowledge of Libyan affairs, culture and forthcoming news/social events and experience of online production techniquesDeputising where appropriate for the Editor- El Kul, and contributing towards the team strategy.To keep up to date with emerging industry trends as well as keeping across changes, updates and audience habits and preferences for social media and other relevant digital platforms.You should have knowledge on how to manage high-profile social media accounts and demonstrate ways to continually improve audience engagement.Where relevant, liaise with Rights teams and contract negotiators and ensure copyright and contracts adhere to BBC regulations.Develop and manage positive working relationships with staff, contributors and talent and be able to give constructive feedback.Contribute to the development and implementation of the department’s strategy and policy.Seek improvements in content production to develop further efficiencies in working practices.Accountable for approving Health and Safety, as well as insurance documentation when working with external and in-house productions.Understand and comply with the Safeguarding policy and the staff Code of Conduct.Participate in relevant mandatory training on Safeguarding and Respect at Work.Report any Safeguarding concerns immediately, either to the Country Director, or using the Whistleblowing Policy.Skills, knowledge and experience requirements:A thorough knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and other compliance policies, or the desire to learn this knowledge quicklyUnderstanding of the importance of the BBC’s values in accuracy and impartialityExcellent editorial skills and judgements and strong knowledge of the targeted audience (their needs and expectations)Proven experience of taking ideas from concept to finished product whilst driving forward creativitySignificant experience in producing and delivering multiplatform productionsExperience of influencing, negotiating and communicating effectively both internally and with external agencies/partnersTeam player, able to lead the team to develop creative ideas which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environmentAbility to establish effective short and long term relationships with a wide range of people, talent, partners and agenciesHighly developed planning and organising skillsExperience of managing and motivating a team, and actively managing team performance, including talentAble to communicate and contribute to the department strategy as requiredAn up-to-date knowledge of the BBC’s diverse audiences and their needs and expectations to shape creative and engagement outputIn-depth knowledge of Libya and fluency in Arabic
