SHIP MANAGEMENT PROJECT ENGINEER (Ref: SDM/2009/001)

The Job
The appointee will be required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team engaged in major ship building projects for LNG and LPG carriers as well as offshore units such as FLNG and FLPG barges. He/she will alsobe required to provide expertise and advice on all aspects of ship construction operation as well as project management for projects in which the Shipping Division has an interest. In addition, he/she will take charge of certain aspects of the designed and construction under guidance from a senior engineer and will also act as assistant to a site manager during construction of new ships for NLNG/BGT.
The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Prepare and outline technical specifications as well as participation in the evaluation of bids, design development process, plan approval, visit shipyards during construction and commission, attend factory acceptanace tests and sea trials.
· Analyse and advice on vessel operating parameters to identify inefficient machinery, hull condition, bunker and lubricant consumption and take prompt action to limit further detrioration.
· Ensure that the design of new ships is in line with the requirements for safety operability and reliability as set in the policies of the division.
· Investigate and evaluate alternative systems, equipment, contractors and methods for effective use in place of obsolete, unreliable or less feeficient system/subjects on the customers’s vessels.
· Guide other departments in the Shipping Division concerned with the chartering of the vessels on technical aspects and provide technical advice and support.
· Assistant the Fleet Manager to coordinate and produce repair and refit specifications and liaise with Procurement Department to ensure that necessary materials are ordered and specialist contractors at the ready as well as reviewing and assisting the Engineer Superintendents to finalise yard tender analysis document.
· Assist the Fleet Managers to supervise contractors, ship’s staff and surveyors to ensure refit is conducted to satisfactory standard, cost and on time. Also, produce on completion of the refit, a review of achieved yard performance with regard to time, cost and quality tendered.
· Agree yard work list and invoice subject to finan approval, negotiate discount, prepare detailed report of the work carried out and recommend work to be done at future refits.
· Ensure and monitor the application of international, national and classification society rules and regulations which apply or are proposed for application to LNG carriers and determine their effects on ship designs and operations.
· Promote Health, safety and Environment and Quality Management policies of NLNG within company and to third parties involved with management of BGT vessels.
The person: The right candidate should:
· Have a Chief Marine Engineer Certificate of competency (Class1 combined) or a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering
· Possess 5-7 years shipping operations’ experience within an integrated shipping/oil/gas company, of which 3 years’ should be as Chief Engineer on LNG/LPG carriers.
· Have shound knowledge of shipboard machinery and operating systems.
· Possess sound knowledge of shipping operations/management as well as strong financial management skills.
· Have good project preparation and organization and organization skills
· Be result oriented with good negotiation, supervisory, coaching and relationship management skills
· Have excellent communications skills
· Not be more than 43 yeras old.
