Basic Purpose:
Manages the entire receivables operations for Zain Kenya. Retrieves, analyzes data and takes action to control and limit financial risk in business operations. Manages customer billing and collection
activities. Overall responsibility for collection, assessing credit worthiness, minimising bad debts and ensuring contract compliance, in order to contribute to a minimization of losses on debtors.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Implement credit policies, procedures and processes so as to mitigate commercial risks:

•Reviews/updates credit control policies in conjunction with the management team
•Develops relevant systems, processes and procedures and present to management for review and approval
•Communicates approved systems and processes and offer training where required
•Develops tools and products, that optimize cash collection and improve days outstanding
•Monitors implementation and ensures compliance
Manage the debt collection process:

•Manages the reconciliation of client accounts and the issuance of statements and invoices to customers
•Manages the follows up on due/overdue debt and ensures timely collection
•Identifies and recommends third party debt collectors for contracting
•Oversees and support the work of both in-house and external debt collectors to ensure achievement of collection targets and puts in place remedial actions in instances of shortfalls
•Continually reviews the performance of client accounts and recommends the review of usage limits/cancellation of facilities as required
•Manager the recruitment and performance of external debt collection agents
•Ensures that credit or debit notes and other adjustments are raised and entries passed on the various customer accounts accurately and on time
•Manage the monthly bad debt provisioning
•Provides for bad debts and draft Board papers for write off where necessary, in consultation with the Finance and Commercial Directors
Manage the overall post paid invoicing

•Ensure all usage is billed
•Ensure all bills are generated and timely delivery
Respond to customer queries relating to the status of accounts in consultation with the corporate accounts manager and customer service team:

•Receives queries and allocates these to Credit Controllers for action
•Follows up and or offers support to ensure prompt resolution
•Escalates complex problems that require input from other parties or departments and follows up to ensure prompt responses
Vet credit applications both new facilities and extensions:

•Manages and reviews the credit vetting process and policies
•Appraises escalated credit vetting requests from sales
•Continually reviews the vetting versus bad debts
Manages the sales distributors credit exposure and ensures timely collection as per terms of trade

Manages the roaming partners debt collection activities

Manages and ensures all other debt exposure from various sources is mitigated

Prepares regular and timely management reports relating to debt collection and credit control aimed at bringing about improved debt management and control

Work closely with personnel in other departments to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
 
Competencies & Qualifications:

Qualifications

•University degree (Finance or B.Com)
•Recognized professional accounting qualification, for instance CPA, ACCA
•5 years of working experience
•A minimum of two years experience in a credit control function
•Telecom experience is preferable
•High stress handling capacity
•Able to operate in a performance driven organization
•Culturally aware and adept at working across multiple geographies
•Fluency in English and/or French
