TITLE: Technical Advisor – Reproductive Health and Family Planning
PROGRAM: Nigeria
REPORTS TO: Deputy Country Project Manager, Nigeria
SALARY: Starting salary will be commensurate with background and experience.

TERM: Two years with possible extension, depending on availability of funding

JOB SUMMARY
Based in Sokoto, the Technical Advisor – Reproductive Health and Family Planning (RH/FP) will provide leadership and support for strengthening and intensifying ACQUIRE/Fistula Care Reproductive Health and Family Planning activities as one of the fistula prevention strategies. S/he will be responsible for designing RH/FP strategies for facility based as well as community based interventions to increase FP uptake.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Technical Advisor – RH/FP will provide technical assistance to the ACQUIRE Fistula Care Project in the following areas:
• Provide leadership in the application of the EngenderHealth approach to FP-integration into fistula activities and follow-up with stakeholders on their action plans to increase access to family planning
• Develop networks to support FP activities in supported facilities
• Development and implementation of strategies for increasing uptake of long-acting methods (IUDs and implants) within the framework of informed choice
• Plan, implement and evaluate training for new and existing healthcare providers in supported sites and in the surrounding communities
• Develop protocols to capture FP data and monitor uptake in supported facilities.
• Develop knowledge management strategies and lesson sharing across EH programs
• Work with Community Mobilization Officer to implement awareness creation activities at community level
• Work with FP task force where present to increase FP advocacy-level activities
• Prepare and submit in a timely fashion quarterly reports on activities, and other writing assignments as assigned
• Other tasks or duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE &CERTIFICATIONS

 Clinical reproductive health background, e.g., nurse, midwife, physician desirable.
 At least 6 years experience in RH/FP, CS, and/or maternal health service delivery in Nigeria.
 Training or Trainer’s Certificate in Reproductive Health
 Relevant post-graduate degree (MPH, etc)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 Demonstrated experience and leadership in RH/FP related activities in Nigeria
 Experience with and understanding of MOH structure/systems, and with USAID-funded projects.
 Demonstrated ability to lead and work collegially with other technical staff, experts, and with counterparts from the public, private and NGO sectors.
 Demonstrated expertise in training, including participatory training and adult-learning theory and practice
 Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork, and partnering skills.
 Strong understanding of fistula in Nigeria and complementary role of FP in prevention and re-integration.
 Ability to influence others through articulate written and verbal communication
 Understanding of USAID Reporting formats
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Hausa language proficiency.
