Action Aid Ghana (AAG) is an Affiliate of ActionAid International, an anti-poverty Non Governmental Organization working in over 40 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.  AAG works with community groups and local civil society organizations to improve the situations and conditions of life of poor and excluded people, in the long term.
ActionAid deems it a social responsibility to contribute to the development of young professionals within Ghana and other parts of the world where ActionAid works. It is for this mutual benefit that AAG offers internship programmes with the idea of providing new graduates or undergraduate students with an opportunity to acquire useful work experience in the area of their field of interest.
A one-year internship programme is available to graduate or undergraduate students who share in AAG’s values with a passion to contribute to end poverty.

JOB TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Reporting to: The Communications /Public Relations Co-ordinator

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY

Reporting to the Communications & Public Relations Co-coordinator, the intern is responsible for creating and acquiring content for ActionAid Ghana’s website and other online communications media such as web blog, Twitter etc. The intern will be instrumental in increasing AAG’s profile by its presence in the social media.

DUTIES:

Upload change stories, audio files, images, photographs and videos on the website and web blogs

Create daily back up files and test page navigation links to news column on the AAG website.

Support in tracking news reports on AAG’s programmes in the news papers and those from Google alert.

Collate change stories from regional programmes for use on the web/ newsletter and the hive.

Assist the Comm./PR Co-coordinator and any other Officer in the planning and delivery of any communication project or activity in AAG.

Provide bi-weekly report to the Comm./PR Coordinator on all assignments/activities in the Accra Office and highlighting any issue(s), challenge(s) and special initiatives taken.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Good writing skills for media (Press and news media)

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Detail Oriented, team player and technologically savvy

Commitment to personal learning, development and improvement in pursuit of own objectives and those of the team and organization.

Good IT skills in Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.

Ability to take good photographs.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

Undergraduate students, HND or Degree in (Communication Studies) Public Relations or Journalism  option.

JOB TITLE: FUNDRAISING INTERN

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY

The Intern will assist the Partnership Funding Manager with fundraising efforts in the areas of corporate and high value fundraising. This will involve written solicitations, research of prospective donors and grant compliance.

The Intern will assist with the fundraising efforts, specifically to:

Generate data base of corporate bodies and match their social investment interest areas to that of AAG

Data entry of donation

Follow-up with donors via letter and phone

Ensure that project managers comply with donor guidelines and deadlines.

Researching prospective donors

Assist in organizing donor festivals

Research on Corporate bodies and potential high value donors

Write and submit grant proposals

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Excellent internet research skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel

Basic knowledge in fundraising

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

Undergraduate students, HND or Degree in Marketing or Fundraising.

JOB TITLE:  FINANCE INTERN

The Finance intern will report to the Finance Manager

The intern’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepare courier delivery from the Finance Office to Admin department
  • Ensure all receipts for payments made are filled together with the Bank payment vouchers.
  • Record all outgoing cheque payments in the cheque register
  • Filing of Vouchers.
  • May be asked to make payments at meetings/workshops as well as make payment in the Bank.
  • Take minutes of the Finance Office monthly meetings.
  • Prepare budgets for meetings/workshops.
  • Stamping of processed invoice.
  • Store Control and stock management.
  • Float reconciliation.
  • Compile all country recharges
  • Support the unit in other daily operational tasks and general office activities that may be assigned
  • To update the Notice Board Monthly.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT

Attention to detail

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and outlook

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Fast Learner

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

Undergraduate students with background in Accounting.

HND Accounting option

BA (Accounting/Finance)

BSc (Admin)

JOB TITLE: VOLUNTEERS

The Volunteers will be attached to the Sponsorship office to undertake periodic assignments as and when desired. Volunteers will be responsible for carrying out the following duties but not limited to: 

DUTIES:

Sort and envelop child sponsorship messages/reports.

Register all incoming and outgoing sponsorship messages.

Maintain an electronic and hard copy of correspondence in accordance with established filing system.

Prepare letters from the Sponsorship office for delivery by courier.

Track and prepare correspondence on enquires.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and outlook

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Commitment to personal learning, development and improvement in pursuit of own objectives and those of the team and organization.
