Girl Hub:Girl Specialists – Managers and Senior Managers in Ethiopia

Girl Hub is opening a global call for adolescent girl expertise to join the Girl Specialists team at central level in London and also for in existing country programmes on the African continent.


Job Purpose:

Girl Specialist Managers and Senior Managers are core functions in Girl Hub’s integrated strategy and a leading source and driver of knowledge and expertise on development policy and adolescent girls’ programming that is measurable and scalable.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead/drive Girl Hub programmatic and policy work streams for adolescent girls; work closely with DFID and other scale partner organisations to design solutions for adolescent girls’ empowerment at scale.
Lead/drive integrated strategic development and planning to embed adolescent girl knowledge and insights into both Girl Hub and Nike Foundation operations.
Work alongside Girl Hub and Nike Foundation creative development teams and monitoring and learning teams to ensure that girl expertise and insights are built into the delivery of initiatives and substantive girl programming is brought to every process.
Bring adolescent girl programming and policy expertise to ensure our work starts and ends with 10-19 girls living in poverty.
Provide adolescent girl subject matter expertise and strategic analysis of opportunities throughout our work to influence systems and leaders to deliver for girls (Government, UN, the private sector, and other key partners including national and international NGOs)
Lead/support initiatives to design adolescent girl-centered program innovations in global and/or local markets.
Play an active role with country and global teams in building institutional knowledge to create compelling multidisciplinary evidence of taking the girl effect to scale in country.
Represent Girl Hub in local networks and forums to bring the voice of the girl and Girl Hub’s experience to bear and influence local debate.


Key Skills and Experience:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related relevant field; ideally, a Master’s degree.
Broad professional work experience in adolescent girls programming and policy (experience in a related field such as gender, youth, child protection will also be favourably considered).
Extensive experience of girl-centred programme design and implementation.
Deep understanding of international best practice on working with adolescent girls.
Experience of training and building capacity on girl centred programming.
Excellent understanding of the challenges facing girls in developing countries
Experience in project management and coordination; including implementation and monitoring, donor reporting, partner relationships, communication and networking.
Excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills.
Proven people management skills.
Proven success in working as part of a team, as well as a team leader where needed
Excellent inter-personal skills and experience of working in a multi-cultural team.
High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
