12 Month Industrial Placement (Southampton) At British American Tobacco (Investments) Ltd

British American Tobacco is the world’s most international tobacco company, with products sold in almost every country. We produce a wide range of tobacco products, mainly cigarettes, but also cigars, roll-your-own, pipe tobacco as well as smokeless tobacco products. Tobacco consumption poses real and serious risks to health, so our research and development activities are principally focused on better understanding the harm caused by tobacco use and working to develop potentially less harmful products. As such, we are committed to achieving leadership of our industry and to be recognised as the world’s most responsible tobacco company.

Our Group Research and Development (GR&D) laboratories are based in the UK in Southampton and Cambridge and are focused on investigating new and innovative ways of reducing toxicant exposure levels in our products. We are also developing and validating new methods for studying how people smoke, what they are exposed to in terms of smoke toxicants and how this relates to the development of disease. The science involved in this work is complex, extremely challenging and spans many scientific disciplines.

The research conducted by GR&D also includes work undertaken in collaboration with external researchers, regional product centres and suppliers in countries around the world, for example, the USA, Italy, Brazil and Russia.
