BBC Media Action believes in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. To achieve this, BBC Media Action partners with civil society, local media and governments to:

  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats, based on robust research, which inform and engage audiences around key development issues;
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

Project Background

Niambie is a civic engagement project with a strong focus on youth and elections in Tanzania.

Project outputs include:

  • A national youth-focused radio show (informed by the Projects team, but managed by the Production team);
  • Capacity-strengthening partnerships with three major media houses, focusing on election reporting (managed by the Projects team);
  • Collaborative partnerships with national media organisations and media professional membership associations to strengthen the sector-wide approach to reporting on elections.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Niambie Project Manager, the Events Assistant will be directly responsible for providing administration, logistics and event-coordination support for the project. This position requires a high level of integrity, ability to prioritise tasks effectively, a results-oriented ‘can-do’ attitude, and a great deal of flexibility.

Main Duties

  • Co-ordinate project training activities, events, meetings and workshops in Dar es Salaam and up-country, including communication with partners and stakeholders, venue identification, transport and other logistics;
  • Attend some activities and events to provide administrative services, take minutes, and ensure smooth management;
  • Draft written meeting notes and events summaries in English and assist in the evaluation of events;
  • Work closely with the Project Officer and Project Manager to identify procurement needs and be responsible for preparing procurement requisitions;
  • Liaise with the central Administration and Procurement team to ensure all project requirements are met;
  • Manage the project information files ensuring all project documentation and reports are complete and up-to-date;
  • From time to time, support Niambie Production team on logistics and events management, especially on community debates related activities;
  • Work closely with the Project Officer to manage the work plan for training, events, meetings and workshops.
  • Other organisational and administrative support to Niambie project as required.

Contract duration: 6 months
