Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs, maintains and enforces the safety and environmental programs for process operations;
  • Reviews safety policies and procedures to uphold best practice safety and environmental standards for all operations and metallurgical personnel;
  • Communicates and interacts directly with the process plant maintenance and laboratory personnel and Services Departments to coordinate operations in all process areas;
  • Manages and controls the plant operations and metallurgical personnel to implement effective operational work practices in all process areas;
  • Develops, implements and monitors short and medium term plans, budgets, goals and objectives, and focus on achieving the department’s objectives;
  • Ensures that plant operations and metallurgical staff are adequately trained, equipped and motivated to ensure achievement of plant operation in a safe, timely and cost effective manner;
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimise unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Initiates and carries out projects that improves efficiency and/or reduces operating costs, and being prepared and able to make changes to realise continuous improvement;
  • Ensures Minerals Commission and other regulatory requirements relating to the process plant and TSF operation are met at all times;
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Process Manager, to whom this position reports;

Required Skills or Experience

  • Degree or HND in Minerals, Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering, or similar/equivalent qualification, from a recognised tertiary institution;
  • Certificate of Competency (Superintendent &/or Manager) issued by Minerals Commission of Ghana;
  • 10 years’ or more experience in process plant operations supervision &/or management; with extensive crushing, milling (SAG & ball mills), thickening, CIL & carbon treatment (acid wash, elution & regeneration) experience preferred.
  • Problem solving and decision making skills;
  • Ability to apply knowledge of standards, methods and procedures to work situation;
  • Dynamic knowledge and understanding of process plant operating & metallurgical practices;
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Projects, and Visio;
  • Medically fit for the position and environment;
  • Valid Ghanaian Driver’s license.
