Cuso International in Nigeria Job Vacancy for Communications Advisor-Calabar

The overall purpose of this placement is to support the external communications strategy of Cuso International’s Youth Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Access and Development (YouLead) project. The specific aim of this role is to capture the beneficiary stories of the project by writing articles for local media print to increase awareness of project successes to date. In addition, you will support the digital communications efforts of YouLead by using social media platforms and the creation of short video testimonials. As the Communications Advisor, you will be playing a key role to advance the external communications strategy of the YouLead project by using a variety of strategies.

The YouLead project is a 5-year collaborative initiative between Cuso International and implementing partners to promote youth employment and entrepreneurship in natural resource sectors of agriculture, forestry, ecotourism and aquaculture in CRS, Nigeria. The project is aligned with the CRS government’s vision to address high youth unemployment and rural-urban drift of young women and men through the sustainable development of priority natural resources and economic sectors. In support of this vision the project aims to improve the capacity of young women and men to develop businesses and engage in the labour force, and to foster the enabling environment required to create ‘greener jobs in a greener economy’.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Document YouLead beneficiary stories, write articles, draft radio advertisements
  • Analyse and develop a social media communications strategy
  • Create and edit YouLead video testimonials of project beneficiaries
  • Provide support to a sustainable external communications strategy

Essential Academic Qualifications:

-Bachelor of Communications, Media Studies

-Bachelor of Journalism, or any other relevant field

Essential Professional Background:

-2-3 years’ relevant experience

-Experience in journalism writing

-Experience using social media for external communications

-Experience in video journalism, videography

-Readiness to take up field work positions

-Ability to work well with others in groups

-Sensitivity to the needs of others
