SightSavers International : Country Director – Ghana

This appointment is vital to the success of our work in Ghana. Reporting to the Regional Director, and based in our office in Accra, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for our team and programmes in Ghana.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring all projects and programmes we support in Ghana are in line with Sightsavers’ strategy, policy and programme approaches, and meet organizational quality standards and best practice.

A strong team player and leader, you need to be able to demonstrate your ability to build and lead effective teams that maximise staff and team potential. At the same time you are able to engage proactively with policies and initiatives with teams and units across the organization.

You will be responsible for ensuring sound monitoring and evaluation practices, and work with the country team and all partners to build up an evidence base that demonstrates programme outcomes and impact.
An effective networker, you have the ability to increase Sightsavers’ profile and engagement with relevant development networks in the country. Your strong influencing and presentation skills equip you to be an effective advocate to government, key donors and other decision makers.

Managing a wide range of responsibilities, we require you to have strong individual planning and team management skills, and a track record of delivering and meeting deadlines. In a challenging economic climate, you will be responsible for ensuring the country programme is able to mobilize the necessary resources, and manages its finances in a cost effective and strategic manner.

You will be an experienced development professional, with an appropriate qualification and ideally educated to a masters level. Our programmes span the areas of health, education, community development and disability and social inclusion – and you will have significant experience in one or more of these areas, at managerial level. We are seeking an outstanding individual to help us generate income from a wide variety of sources including employee fundraising, cause-related marketing and by securing major corporate partnerships. The successful candidate will also help the team to account manage our partnerships with multinationals as well as raise our profile amongst the business community and maximise the potential of our unique brand.

You will also be involved in organising events, overseas trips and working closely with our communications team to maximise PR opportunities for both Sightsavers and our corporate supporters.

The ideal candidate will have experience of either successfully raising funds from companies or working in a marketing/PR role which has involved close liaison with senior individuals.

You will be an effective planner and organiser, a lateral thinker and a self-starter and above all, tenacious! You will also be an excellent communicator with first class negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Sightsavers wishes to recruit an Accounts Officer, for the East, Central and Southern Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide Regional Office support in the accounting processes in order to ensure compliance with Sightsavers’ financial policies and procedures

Process payments within Sightsavers’ policies and procedures

Maintenance of accurate books of accounts and assets register

Processing payroll within Sightsavers’ policies and procedures

Ensuring timely remittance of statutory payments and filing of statutory returns

Facilitating both Internal & External audits by providing schedules and information as required

Holding and administering Regional Office petty cash

Prepare regular financial reports as needed

Assist in discharging IT functions as per Sightsavers ICT policies and procedures

Assist in checking and reviewing Regional Office partner financial returns and processing cash transfer requests

Prepare monthly financial returns for submission to Sightsavers head office

Provide administrative support in managing the day to day operations of the office

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate, a Kenyan national

Must have at least three years experience in a busy accounting office

A degree in Commerce or Business Administration and CPA (II).

The candidate must possess a strong understanding of programme financial management and administration, planning, organising and facilitation skills, written and oral communication and information technology (MS Office and Sun Accounts).

Adaptability and team building skills are essential for this role.
