IRC’s General Counsel is responsible for all legal matters of the organization, including litigation management, and regulatory and government donor compliance. In addition, the General Counsel establishes legal policies of the organization and provides reports to the Legal Committee, as well as the full Board of Directors. The IRC is looking to host a deferred associate or an associate who is taking a year off and must do pro bono/public interest work to receive a stipend from their firm. The IRC will not be able to provide any compensation for this position.
Responsibilities:
The pro bono attorney will work with the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel regarding all legal matters pertaining to the organization’s international field programs and domestic refugee resettlement offices. They will assist with inter-organizational legal issues, including visa applications, state and country registrations, regulatory and government donor compliance, contract drafting and review, and establishment of legal policies for the organization. The attorney should be able to provide legal advice on a variety of matters related to working for an international U.S. based non-profit including, employment law, tax law, economic sanctions and export compliance laws and regulations and will conduct legal research and develop policies and procedures to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
