Position Summary
Reporting to the C&P Group Head of Operations Category, the Category Manager – Production Operations will manage cross-functional global virtual teams for various spend categories.
The jobholder will be accountable for delivering relevant elements of the Operations Category strategy, utilising leading-edge techniques to shape BG’s global approach to managing strategic categories, such that implementable programmes are developed, executed and performance-managed.
Key Accountabilities
  • Balances multiple perspectives to arrive at optimal category strategies for specific category areas, managing any conflicts arising.
  • Acts as an authoritative centre of expertise for key allocated categories.
  • Leads (virtual) cross-functional category teams to deliver value-adding deals for BG.
  • Utilises current category management techniques and practices.
  • Resolves day-to-day issues and manages resources.
  • Creates milestone and resource plans for allocated categories.
  • Holds management level relationships with key external contractors.
  • Contributes to development and delivery of the Operations Category strategy.
  • Works closely with BG technical and business managers to create aligned approach for allocated categories.
  • Accountable for contracts >$5million, executed by the assets, within allocated sub-categories.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience RequiredEssential:
  • Experience of procurement in complex, diverse, cross-functional environments.
  • Experience of developing and effectively implementing modern category or commodity strategies in an oil and gas industry environment.
  • Experience of strategic sourcing of oil and gas industry goods or services.
  • Oil and gas industry experience across a range of categories, e.g. Capital Projects, Operations and Maintenance, Well Engineering and Indirects.
Desirable:
  • Experience of Production Operations, for example; Production Chemicals, Logistics, Rotating Equipment, Valves, within an operating asset environment.
Skills, Experience and Attribute
  • Decisive, high energy, and focuses on priorities.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills; able to determine the impact of an issue quickly, and identify and address future opportunities and challenges.
  • Promotes a positive and professional work environment with drive and enthusiasm; is self-motivated.
  • Highly competent communicator with good influencing and networking skills, capable of engaging across a broad range of organisational levels and able to manage successful relationships, influence stakeholders and share knowledge effectively.
  • Strong engagement skills – competent at leading and managing meetings and presenting at a senior level.
  • Educated to degree level, ideally in an engineering or business discipline; membership of a relevant professional body (eg MCIPS, CPSM, MIIAPS) preferred.
  • Fluent in the English language.
