Job purpose:

BBC Media Action works in partnership with local media agencies, civil society organisations, and governments to achieve long term development goals. We produce creative media content to inform and engage audiences, and strengthen the media sector by building professional skills and technical capacity.
The Producer will take primary responsibility for delivering radio debate and discussion programmes for BBC Media Action’s new and existing governance projects. BBC Media Action management reserves the right to assign the Producer to other outputs depending on circumstances, project needs or funding.
Main duties

• Working under the supervision of the Head of Factual, coordinating with Senior Producer and Head of Factual, and liaising with others as needed to brainstorm, plan, produce and edit monthly discussion and magazine programmes. These discussion programme will involve an audience questioning an invited guest (guests)
• Coordinate with Head of Factual, Executive Editor, Project Managers and Research & Learning team to come up with themes that are relevant to the lives of ordinary Nigerians, fit project goals, and can have an impact on our listeners.
• Source guests and audience members for programmes, ensuring they are appropriately chosen for the topic.
• Plan recordings, both in Abuja and in other cities, including creating budget, finding a location, working with Operations to ensure proper logistic preparation and safety, and working with the Sound Engineers to ensure any technical needs for recording are met.
• Conduct content research and prep the presenter to make sure s/he is properly prepared for the recording and understands the subject matter in a way that will allow for quality questioning of guests.
• Oversee editing and delivery of final programme.
• Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that production outputs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
• Monitor and ensure that expenses are in compliance with production budget.
• Prepare operational reports;
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
• After appropriate training, be able to use a range of audio & digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit, sound design and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
Required skills, knowledge and experience

• Native Hausa language skills
• A first degree in Mass Communication, Communication Arts, English, Social Sciences or any other relevant field would be an advantage.
• Production background and experience, preferably in the area of factual radio outputs. Experience planning, producing, editing or otherwise working on discussion programmes involving an audience questioning a guest (guests) would be an advantage.
• Possess ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and ways to improve it
• Experience managing a team and coordinating multiple roles to deliver project outputs on time and in budget.
• Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be well versed in the use of the computer;
• Excellent Hausa language skills.
• Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal.
• Knowledge of latest production-related technology and techniques, particularly for radio recording.
• Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.
