Research Officer At BBC Media Action -London(2 Positions)

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. We focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.
We are recruiting for at least two Research Officers for fixed term contracts: for 6 and 12 month contracts. As a Research Officer, you will support all aspects of the research programme in one or two countries in Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe.
Role Responsibility

As part of a research team, you will proactively support research activities across Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe. Taking direction from Research Managers, you will be coordinating research, collating and analysing data, to deliver the results to the requirements of our stakeholders, which include creative and production teams as well as external audiences. You will be designing and supporting others to design qualitative and quantitative research and you’ll be writing research reports, presentations and other dissemination products in a range of formats. This position will also require you to support the commissioning of agencies, coupled with working with Research Managers to liaise with Country Research teams to oversee the implementation of research, including monitoring quality, budget and timely delivery of research outputs.
The Ideal Candidate

The role requires you to bring strong qualitative and quantitative research and analysis skills, coupled with experience in social research methods. Therefore, you’ll have experience with data sets, including cleaning and manipulating data in SPSS and be familiar with qualitative research methods and software. Your ability to explain concepts clearly and communicate research findings will be equally important. You’ll be experienced at report writing and delivering presentations to a high standard with minimal supervision. You’ll have excellent IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, and be a natural coordinator who is highly organised.
Experience or familiarity with international development issues, particularly in media, health, governance or resilience, would be an advantage – but not necessary.
We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are very important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below. You’ll be asked questions relating to them as part of your application for this role.
