The Company is looking for a Senior Chief Accountant for its Head office in Lagos.
Job description

The Chief Accountant will have to control and manage the day-to-day accounts transactions. He will be expected to prepare monthly Management Accounts and annual Financial Returns. He will interface with Company’s Management, SBU Managements and Nigeria Authorities

He will report to the Finance Manager

The position is based in Lagos.
Responsibilities

* Control and manage the day-to-day accounts transactions
* Reconcile accounts with debtors, creditors and Group companies
* Ensure compliance with Company’s accounts and administration procedures
* Liaise with other Company’s departments to ensure smooth interaction with Accounts Department
* Control the bank movements and their reconciliation with bank statements.
* Control the cash movements (Head Office & SBU) and conduct surprise cash counts
* Look after the Companies interests regarding Nigerian authorities and external auditors
* Produce monthly Management Accounts and clarify same with SBU
* Assist external auditors in their task of auditing the Company
* Produce annual financial reports
* Monitor changes in legislation and publications regarding accountancy and financial matters
* Assist in the preparation of standardized accounting procedures in the Company.
* Deputize for the Finance & Administration Manager when he is not available

Qualifications et experience

* “Chartered Accountant” with working experience in an international group or financial institution
* Knowledge of business laws, legal codes, government regulations
* Have advanced computer skills specifically in Microsoft Excel and ERP Systems
* Be self-motivated and self-directed, able and willing to take initiative
* Demonstrate the energy level, authority, professionalism and honesty required of a fully committed and effective Chief Accountant in Nigeria.
* Interested in long-term employment.
* Strong accounting ability must be proven including profound knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, foreign exchange regulations and labour laws
* Must be experienced in preparation of monthly management accounts and annual financial reports including the handling of internal and external audits
* Must demonstrate an ability to communicate at all levels and show leadership skills.
* Must be able to communicate effectively with clients, creditors and Nigerian authorities.

The Support to Reforming Institutions Programme is an European Union Funded programme in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria. The programme is designed to contribute to poverty reduction through effective public service delivery and ensuring transparent budgeting process through its Programme Management Unit (PMU) and six State Technical Units (STUs)

The programme requires the service of a qualified, experienced and dynamic candidate with proven track record for the following position.

ACCOUNTANT AND CONTRACT MANAGER –

QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in Accounting, Finance or Banking with an additional qualification either ICAN or CPA, the candidate must be fluent in English.

GENERAL PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of professional experience; experience in government administration is advantage. Knowledge of European Development Fund procedures, at least 2 years of specific experience in preparation and management of tender and contracts. Must be computer literate (Word and Excel). Previous experience in financial management and contract management in a large donor funded project, preferably by the European Commission, would be a distinctive advantage.

Chief Accountant
This position will have overall responsibility for all internal accounting functions of GRID. Managing a team of six, the chief accountant will report to the managing director and will have the primary responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the accounting department including accounts payable/receivable, planning/forecasting, a substantial payroll, and the generation of management accounting reports. S/he will also continually monitor and report on the company’s financial management systems as well as on all financial-related activities of the company.
Qualification:
The ideal candidate should be a professionally qualified accountant with a minimum of 10 years professional experience in an accounts generating function. At least 5 of these years must have been spent in a management role with responsibility for overseeing the functions of other accounting staff. Strong knowledge of using computerised accounting packages is critical; as is the ability to compile, present and defend management and final accounts. In addition we require a good communicator with a proven track record of setting up accounting systems and strong Excel skills.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
The positions will be based in Ikoyi Lagos, and will be subject to a probationary period of six months. Our remuneration rates are very competitive.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Review of resource inputs to each project and the completion certificates generated on monthly basis to ascertain effective production

Variance analysis of resource inputs and invoicing against budgeted amounts

Periodic reports on profit and loss per project to management

Review of internal control procedures in operation in the company and recommend changes where necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A Minimum of a second class lower division degree in Accounting or Business Management and (or) Civil Engineering. An MBA, ACCA or ICAN will be an added advantage.

Not less than 30 years of age

A Minimum of 4-6 years of cognate experience in construction or related industry.
