The area: Public Policy and Government Relations

It’s our team’s job to inform and educate elected officials, regulators, and other policy makers about our approach to the big public policy issues of day. Technology moves fast, so it’s important we spend time working with the people creating laws and rules to help them understand the issues we care about and that affect our users. Google touches a lot of public policy debates, so we are looking for quick-witted, entrepreneurial, and intellectually curious people to join the team. To succeed here you’ll need to be able to combine creativity with the organizational skills to manage numerous different projects to tight deadlines all at once, as well as enjoy working with a wide range of policy makers. It’s never quiet, never boring, and things can happen pretty quickly – so you’ll need to be a proactive self-starter who also is an enthusiastic team player. We have a healthy appetite for risk, so you’ll always be ready to try new ways of doing things.

The role: Policy Manager, Middle East and Northern Africa

As a Policy Manager for the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA), you will advocate Google’s public policy positions before policy makers in the MENA region. Working within a cross-functional team of Google employees in the MENA region, as well as with a closely coordinated global Public Policy team, the Policy Manager will lead a variety of initiatives in support of Google’s public policy objectives. Please note this role can be based in Cairo or anywhere in the MENA region.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor, analyse, and develop policy strategies in a variety of policy areas.
• Advocate on behalf of Google direct with politicians and policy makers at every legislative level.
• Work with trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other allies to promote and build support for Google’s policy positions.

Requirements:

• BA/BS degree preferred with a strong academic record, as well as a passion for the internet and its potential to make the world a better place.
• Direct experience in one or more of the following fields: privacy, intellectual property, content regulation, telecoms and youth protection.
• Direct experience working in national politics, government, or a think-tank.
• Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in high-stress environments.
• Proven communicator with excellent one-on-one manner and presentation skills, as well as strong written skills and the ability to translate complex issues.
• Self-starter with the ability to think, plan, and execute large projects.
• First-rate leadership, personal, political, and communications skills as well as a profound willingness to collaborate. Fluency in Arabic and English are a prerequisite.

Through content partnerships and programs, we support Google.com, YouTube, Google Book Search, Google Maps and Google Earth and over 20 Google products/properties around the world. The breadth and scope of content we acquire almost defies description – it includes video, books, publications, mapping data, satellite and aerial imagery, business addresses, restaurant reviews, retail product inventories, real estate listings and government data.

The role: Strategic Partner Development Manager, Print Content Partnerships

As a Strategic Partner Development Manager, Print Content Partnerships you have an exciting opportunity to apply and hone business skills (e.g. business development, marketing, and strategy) in an environment that is entrepreneurial. This operating role will appeal to aspiring general managers, as it provides exposure to multiple functional disciplines (e.g. Product Management, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations). You will be working to obtain Print Content that is valuable to Google users, but not yet included in Google’s index. You will drive the negotiations around monetization opportunities with publishers, retailers and book ereaders/device manufacturers in EMEA. In this role you will have the opportunity to “own” the content strategy and execution for certain categories/verticals, negotiate complex partnerships, represent Google at industry events, work across multiple European markets, present to senior management, and collaborate with product teams to evolve Google’s offerings.
Managers are creative, results-oriented individuals with a passion for Google, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You should be as comfortable in a partner-facing capacity negotiating content-licensing deals, as in working cross-functionally on programs to encourage/enable providers to make their content discoverable through Google.

Responsibilities:

• Initiate, structure, and negotiate high impact strategic content partnerships at CXO level.
• Represent Google to the media and at industry events and be the ambassador for the company in discussions with key accounts and prospects.
• Prioritize content providers/geographies to focus on through analysis and deep understanding of Google’s product roadmap.
• Define content acquisition vertical strategies, decide where to focus efforts, and choose mix of acquisition channels/methods.

Requirements:

• Undergraduate BA/BS degree or equivalent experience, with an MBA and/or JD strongly preferred.
• Business development experience negotiating complex media or Internet deals preferred at the CXO level.
• Proven track record of initiating and successfully driving new business opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate cross-functionally and externally.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid, and collaborative environment.
• Detailed knowledge of the book publishing and newspaper industries a plus.
• Fluency in English along with one or more of German, Italian, Swedish, Russian or Arabic is required.
