Project Accountant

Duties and responsibilities

1. He/She will be responsible for generating accurate records relative to all project/ programme transactions
2. Generate, document, classify, maintain and prepare financial reports in accordance with approved accounting standards and guidelines
3. Keep track of financial reporting needs & undertake financial cost benefit analysis
4. Oversee and review posting of transactions into the accounting software and ensure efficient and effective functioning and maintenance of the system
5. Create linkages for accounting procedures and transmission of accounting data, and specifications
6. Make comparative evaluation of provisional project budget with cost centers and indicate variance analysis over time and reports same to all project stakeholders
7. Responsible for the processing of expenditures in accordance with the financial regulations
8. Implement budgetary control procedures and ensure that expenditures approved for payment have been provided for in the Budget  
9. Ensure that Accounting Codes/Budgetary Codes and expenditure guidelines are adhered to
10. Oversee the preparation of bank reconciliation statements for all bank accounts of the ECOWAS Commission
11. Safeguard of all vouchers including supporting documents for review by both external and internal auditors
12. Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications/Experience/Skills

• A degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration
• A formal professional Accountancy designation is also required e.g. CA, ACCA, CIMA etc
• Candidates should possess at least five (5) years post qualification work experience.
• Possession of a higher degree would reduce the required experience to five (3) years;
• A working knowledge of accounting software systems, budgeting and strategic financial planning would also be an added advantage.
• Should be computer literacy and have good inter-personal relations skills.
