ActionAid Recruits Inspirators(Global Opportunity)

MS ActionAid Denmark is right now launching a new personnel category called Inspirators.

Inspirators are cross national placement of development practitioners with significant hands on experience from development work in developing or newly industrialized countries.

We are therefore looking for dedicated individuals, who would like to spend 3 to 9 month together with one of our many partner organizations in Africa, Asia, Central America and the Middle East.

Inspirators are volunteer placements. However, you will have your travel and accommodation expenses covered. You will also receive a living allowance to cover your costs of living while abroad and 350€ to cover some of the expenses you may have in your home country while abroad. Please, be aware that all allowances and subsidies are subject to local tax.

Inspirator placements offer an excellent opportunity to learn and share experiences across national borders and cultures with likeminded organizations. It is a chance to get international work experience and not least to grow as a human being.

Requirements

The overall requirements to become an Inspirator are:

At least 5 years of paid or voluntary work experience
At least 3 years of paid or voluntary work experience within a specific subject area
Paid or voluntary work experience from developing or newly industrialized countries
Voluntary work experience
Strong sense of solidarity and volunteerism
Facilitation and motivational skills
Ability to transfer knowledge
Personal drive and motivation to become an Inspirator

British Army Jobs: It is very easy for Commonwealth citizens to join the British Army. Visit the army’s website – see the link at the end of this page and then click on the careers and then the application form.
You will be asked to indicate your postal addresses and the army will send the application pack through post.

In the forms there is a sponsor part where you need to fill the sponsor details and addresses.

The sponsor should be legally in the UK and should be able to provide you with accommodation during your stay in the UK.

When you fill the forms and fulfill all the requirements you need to submit the forms to the British High Commission which in turn forwards the forms to the army.

When the army receives the forms it will contact the sponsor to confirm that s/he is willing to sponsor the applicant.

After about two months you will receive a letter informing you if you have been successful or not. If you have been successful, the visa application process begins.

The applicant is required to provide a copy of the sponsors’ passport and utility bills. Remember, the sponsor should be able to accommodate you in the UK.

You will be given an interview date where you will be asked relevant questions including your relationship with your sponsor etc.

Oxfam: Poverty Footprint Officer (Top Urgent)

Poverty Footprint Officer

Location: Oxford
Salary: £30,000 pro rata
Contract: 3 days per week or 21.6 hours fixed term for 18 months
Job Purpose

To manage the development and communication, and coordinate the application by affiliates, of the Oxfam Poverty Footprint Methodology (OPFM) and coordinate activities of the Oxfam International Poverty Footprint Working Group (OIPFWG). To liaise with external (government, company, NGO) institutions on similar themes and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

* Developing an Oxfam International (OI) launch (for 2012 at the latest) and branding strategy for the long run for the OPFM.
* Delivering a revised Oxfam Poverty Footprint Methodology, with input and assistance provided by affiliates, by June 2011. Managing all revisions and maintenance of the OPFM.
* Developing and managing an external communications plan in collaboration with interested affiliates to capitalise on key media events taking place globally and coordinate release of Poverty Footprint studies and other publications.
* Sign posting specific external queries to the relevant affiliate and ensuring these are responded to promptly and in line with Oxfam’s position on the private sector.
* Communicating about the Poverty Footprint with all Oxfam Affiliates, responding or sign-posting to core OIPFWG members as needed.
* Recruiting wider OIPFWG membership and managing new and existing members through regular communications, telcons, virtual and physical meetings.
* Coordinating and liaising between OIPFWG members on strategic management issues (such as agreements on the launch strategy).
* Supporting brokering and negotiating new studies with interested affiliates;
* Supporting affiliates in following OI Private Sector processes and Risk Management during negotiation and implementation of Poverty Footprint studies.
* Providing advice and quality assurance on agreed Poverty Footprint studies.
* Coordinating agreements and sign-offs between affiliates on studies.
* Supporting external relationships with key stakeholders such as Business Fights Poverty / The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)/ Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) on matters relating to poverty footprinting.
* Coordinating and providing support on fund-raising efforts.
* Providing regular management updates on progress of the Oxfam Poverty Footprint programme to the OI Private Sector Team.


Key Working Relationships

OI poverty footprint working group (representatives from Oxfam America, Oxfam Great Britain, Oxfam Novib, Oxfam Germany, Oxfam Australia) and Oxfam International Private Sector Team.

Key Competencies

Essential

* Experience working in / with the Private Sector.
* Experience and interest in development, poverty reduction, and sustainability.
* Experience of planning, conducting or commissioning research.
* Understanding of corporate reporting, benchmarking, and impact assessment.
* Experience in research methodologies in both corporate and development settings.
* Experience working in and with multi-stakeholder forums including NGOs and Companies.
* Sound judgement about brand risk for NGOs operating in an international setting, and ability to manage complex and sensitive organisational relationships.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to promoting gender equity and the interests of marginalised people in all advocacy work.
* Enthusiasm for and commitment to Oxfam International’s values and mission.
* Ability to work independently and think innovatively and strategically, as well as collaborate within a team.
* Ability to work on own initiative, manage complex workloads and deliver outputs and reports to agreed deadlines.
* Excellent written and communication skills.
* Experience working in and managing multi-stakeholder processes, including working with different civil society, academic, private sector, and government organisations.


Desirable

* Communications, media, and branding experience.
* Knowledge of Open Source / collaborative initiatives including overview of technical and legal requirements to set such initiatives up.

The post holder must have the legal right to be employed in the UK.
