Job description

Based in the Trading division of Total Gas & Power Ltd, reporting to the Operations Manager under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the role monitors and optimises the Gas & Power portfolios for all UK and European Operations, and minimises cost and maximises revenue within defined parameters. The role requires working a shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Optimisation of Cashout charges
Responsible for minimising regime penalties
Operate a £multi-million contract for Upstream
Within day/out of hours optimisation of physical assets
Failure to Interrupt liability
Responsible for operating a daily buyback market

ACTIVITIES
To liaise with the trading desks to exchange information with respect to portfolio optimisation.
To optimise our physical position out of office hours by trading on electronic energy exchanges or OTC. This includes contract optimisation on a prompt basis.
To carry out all operations in a manner that complies with the rules and regulations specified by various pipeline/grid operators, and the codes of practice as agreed by the shipping community and regulators.
To ensure that entry capacity requirements are satisfied, and buy-back opportunities are taken.
To manage the Upstream portfolio (and other entities for whom we act as a shipping agent) on a daily basis as instructed and to provide daily reports to such entities detailing this activity.
To liaise with offshore field operators for real-time and short-term production information, both for contractual and operational purposes.
To liaise with operators of physical assets (Power generation) on a regular basis to ensure revenue optimised and potential imbalances avoided.
To liaise with the Marketing desk regarding the gas/power off-take of end-users and balance the portfolio accordingly. React as necessary to fluctuations in this demand.
To ensure effective interruption management of our end-user portfolios for purposes of system security as well as using interruption as a commercial tool where applicable.
To monitor after the day allocation information, validate against nominated quantities and highlight and resolve discrepancies.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
To minimise financial penalties under all regimes in which we operate/physically trade.
To correctly notify our physical position to the relevant transporters in the UK, Europe and the Interconnector, via the relevant communication and in a timely manner. To react to capacity constraints/interruptions which may impact flows, re-balancing the relevant portfolios as required.

Required skills
Education

Degree educated in one of the following areas: Maths, Economics, Science or Physics (essential)
Numerically literate (essential)
Experience
Proven first experience in an energy commodities trading environment (essential) within an operations team (highly desirable).
Interest in energy industry (essential)
Experience of, and ability to work in a pressured environment (essential)
Skills
European language skills (French or German highly desirable)
Attention to detail
Prioritisation skills
Strong communicator with ability to relay facts clearly and concisely
Commercial accumen
