Household Economic Strengthening Specialist,Kenya Christian Aid

Christian Aid Logo is a UK-based international humanitarian and development non-governmental organisations. It is currently working in more than 50 countries, and has been working in Kenya since 1997. The Kenya Country Programme presently focuses on community health, inclusive markets and climate change resilience delivery interventions that influence shifts in power relations in favour of poor and marginalised communities and groups as a means to ending poverty cycles.

Christian Aid requires a Household Economic Strengthening (HES) Specialist for a USAID funded CASE-OVC programme to lead the project’s HES stream of work and manage HES staff on the programme to ensure quality and excellence in Technical Assistance given to partners and in the delivery of project at household level.

About Role

The Household Economic Strengthening Specialist is responsible for the technical aspects of activity implementation that relate to economic strengthening/livelihoods for OVC households within their communities. The role holder will work within the project management unit and support the regional teams in delivery of this aspect of the CASE OVC project.

Doing this will ensure the following three key results are delivered: –

  1. Effective articulation of the CASE-OVC technical strategies and Christian Aid Inclusive Markets Development Strategies into partner workplans, budgets, and operating procedures.
  2. Effective delivery of results at household level in terms of economic strengthening, sustainable livelihoods and OVC thriving and wellbeing.
  3. Effective evidencing, documentation, reporting and communication of outputs, outcomes and impact while ensuring learning and improvement of project strategies and approaches.

About you

With line management from the Chief of Party and close collaboration with the CASE-OVC Senior Technical Advisor, you will work with other team members to coordinate support to regional team leadership of the household economic strengthening aspects of the CASE OVC project to deliver results. You have high qualifications related to economic strengthening/livelihoods with 5 years of experience in managing complex economic strengthening interventions. You will model and promote in your role integrity, self-leadership, teamwork and decisiveness. You are proactive and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision to deliver quality and excellence in related results outlined above. This is about you leading effectively individually and collaboratively in teams to deliver key outputs while exercising passion, autonomy and mutual accountability. You will challenge status quo, embrace and respect diversity of views, enable others to co-lead with you, and take action to make contributions toward achievement of the shared team goals.

You will have the ability to think creatively to navigate the complexities and uncertainties and the ever faster pace of change in the workplace, in people management, and in the operating context in Kenya. You will also demonstrate adaptive programming with ability to translate thinking and decisions into results in a timely manner.

In doing so, you will facilitate your team’s collaboration with the donor, partners, internal and external teams and service providers including programmes, finance, regional teams, and London teams.
