DEPARTMENT AND POSITION SUMMARY:
Americares Emergency Programs department is responsible for our preparedness, response, and recovery programs. Americares responds to more than 20 disasters around the world, including the West Africa Ebola crisis, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and storms and complex emergencies around the world. The Emergency department directs the delivery of medicines and supplies to treat illnesses and injuries caused by the disaster; supports the restoration of health care services in affected areas; addresses the psychosocial and mental health needs of disaster survivors; and helps communities and health care institutions prepare for future disasters.
The Emergency Programs internship provides an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing careers in the fields of public health, health care and/or disaster management.
The internship will touch on all phases of the Emergency Program. Responsibilities consist of both short and long-term assignments. Activities will include partner outreach and development, data management and analysis, and research and writing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily/Weekly/Monthly:
1. Update disaster fact sheets by conducting research and writing about disaster situations
2. Receive, review, channel and/or respond to external inquiries received via phone, email and social media.
3. Support time sensitive projects across the Emergency Programs department.
Long Term Projects:
1. ER Training Project. Assist in the development and delivery of a comprehensive emergency response training curriculum.
2. External Cadre Project. Work with ER and Human Resources to study different metrics of roster applicants. Assist HR in categorizing.
3. Research emergency response intervention programs.

SKILLS:
Preferred
1. Working knowledge of another language, especially Spanish, is an advantage.
2. Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Required
1. Ability to work independently and in team environments.
2. Experience/interest in emergency planning, response and/or recovery.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
4. Experience in MS Office software.
