WAIFEM:Programme Managers

The West Africa Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) is a supra-national institution established by the central banks of the Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Based in Lagos, Nigeria,
WAIFEM is charged principally to strengthen capacity for macroeconomic and financial management in countries of member central banks. The Institute seeks suitably qualified candidates to fill the under-mentioned position:


Position: Programme Managers (Debt & Macroeconomic Management Departments)

Duties and Responsibilities of each Programme Manager

Responsible (o the relevant Director, the Programme Managers will keep under constant review in the light of changing circumstances, the training and capacity building needs of member central banks, allied ministries and public sector agencies in the countries of the Institute’s member central banks.
Prepare reports on departmental programmes conducted by the institute for documentation, – publication and feedback.
Assist participants in their programme work by providing guidance and information on reference material and data sources, etc.
Assist in preparing yearly time tables and budgets for the implementation of approved training and capacity building activities of the institute in debt management or macroeconomic management as the case may be and coordinate the implementation of such programmes.
Prepare and deliver lectures and conduct case studies and group work exercises,
Conduct policy-driven research or studies on contemporary capacity building issues of relevance to his/her department and to countries of member central banks,
Assist in designing systems for assessing the performance of facilitators and resource persons in the delivery of programmes, the quality and utility of lecture/reading materials and other handouts; general and administrative aspects,
Assist in the preparation of periodic, occasional and special reports of the Institute.
Carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of the Department or competent authority from time to time.

Essentials, Qualification and Experience

1. Must be a citizen of the constituent WAIFEM countries
2. A minimum of Post-graduate degree in Economics, Finance or a related field at the Masters level; a doctorate degree would be an advantage.
3. At least five (5) years professional working experience in microeconomic analysis or as the case may be in debt management issues, particularly HIPC Initiative, Debt Recording (CS-DRMS) and domestic debt management
4. Experience in designing and implementing training and capacity building programmes.
5. Excellent report writing skills
6. Ability to work in a team-based multi-cultural environment.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
8. Must be computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
Terms of Contract

Two – year contract, renewable on satisfactory performance
