ECOWAS COMMISSION:Publication Officer

VACANCY ANOUNCEMENT
The Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in collaboration with the African Capacity Building Foundation
(ACBF) and other development partners, established in 2008 the Economic
Policy Analysis Unit (EPAU) for the Office of the Commissioner in charge of
Macroeconomic Policy at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja. The
establishment of the EPAU is predicated on the need to bridge existing
institutional capacity gap and to realize the overall objective of the
Macroeconomic Policy Programme of the Commission which is to facilitate
the harmonization of ECOWAS member states’ economic and financial
policies with a view to attaining monetary integration, private sector
development and sustained growth.
The thrust of the EPAU research programme will primarily be initiation,
coordination and monitoring of research as well as policy issues in the form
of special studies. EPAU will also conduct evaluative research. In conducting
these research studies, EPAU will provide hard data on the economies of
ECOWAS Member States and their expected development, particularly in
relation to the realization of the ECOWAS Monetary Cooperation
Programme objectives. These will also cover agriculture, transport, trade
and infrastructure among other areas.
On the basis of the knowledge and data generated from activities of EPAU,
informed policy decisions will be made, while also taking cognizance of the
costs, benefits and risks of particular courses of action. EPAU will work in
close collaboration with ACBF funded projects in the region in the
preparation, execution and monitoring of programs. This will involve
experience sharing and regular consultation with those projects.
