The organisation must thus ensure it offers attractive salaries, benefits and working conditions and provide efficient quality service to its staff in order to achieve higher rates of retention, high motivation levels and quality delivery of work activities. To this end, the Directorate requires a Compensation and Benefits Specialist.
Duties and responsibilities
- In consultation with the Job Grading Consultants and the Benefits Administrators, develop and implement a performance driven compensation and benefits strategy to enable the organisation enhance performance by motivating individuals and driving desired behaviour using reward strategies as a lever;
- Devise ways to ensure fair and equitable pay rates and ways to monitor the organisation's salary structure and benefits provision to ensure balance between control of costs and attracting and retaining talent.
- Maintain market intelligence; salary, benefits and benchmarking surveys, to determine if the organisation's pay scale complies with the market and to alert leadership on latest trends and make recommendations in response to current and future developments;
- Work with Performance and Development Unit to review/analyse the performance evaluation system, provide counsel to leadership on annual increments and design reward systems such as pay-for-performance plans while monitoring and measuring its success on an ongoing basis
- Obtain cost effective, employee serving benefits; monitor benefits environment for options and cost saving
- Recommend cost effective changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at employee satisfaction and retention.
- Design and deliver Compensation and Benefits workshops for HR team and staff representatives;
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in social sciences or related field
- Minimum of seven (7) years relevant human resources experience working with compensation systems and administration, including compensation design, job evaluation, and pay equity.
- Analytical Skills: Strong diagnosis and analytical skills and ability in effectively assessing compensation and benefit structures, differentiation of work complexity and consistent application of job evaluation methodology.
- Communication: Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate, verbally and in writing, including use of persuasive presentation.
- Diversity Awareness: Understanding and ability to work effectively with individuals having diverse styles, abilities, motivations and background (including gender and cultural differences).
- Ethics and Integrity: Demonstrated practice of integrity and ethical behaviour in all circumstances.
- HR Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of Compensation and Benefit concepts and principles and ability to conduct research in those areas of expertise; good knowledge of HR policies and laws and their linkage to compensation structures.
- Innovation: Ability to be innovative, creating and sustaining a positive environment that supports calculated risk-taking
- Organisational Knowledge: Ability to promptly understand organisation's mission, vision and values and how this ties to meeting the organisation's goals.

Age
Candidate must not be fifty (50) years old or more at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.
Languages
Proficiency (speaking, writing) in one of the three official ECOWAS languages- English, French, Portuguese. Proficiency in more than one is an added advantage
