Description Purpose / Role
To support the development on site of a project-wide culture whereby contributes will execute the project
with no harm to people or the environment. This will be achieved by playing a primary role in gaining the trust and confidence of the workforce and providing coaching, guidance, support and advice regarding SHE issues to all personnel.
Key aims and objectives
• To provide leadership by example in all aspects of SHE.
• Communicate with and support project and third party personnel in support of the achievement of health and safety objectives.
• Support the SHES Manager in ensuring project compliance with legislation, policies, guidance and best practice.
Prime responsibilities and duties
• Develop and maintain visibility and presence on site, gain the trust and confidence of the worksite personnel and provide proactive coaching on all SHE issues.
• Contribute to building a culture of personal accountability where safe behaviours are re-enforced, and at risk behaviours are challenged.
• Administer and monitor the U-See U-Act system on site.
• Provide coaching and training to the site workforce and management team and ensure that all project participants are provided with the tools and knowledge to allow them to work within the safe operating envelope of legislation, procedures and competence.
• Arrange, attend and participate in weekly site safety steering team meetings and respond to any actions in a positive and timely manner.
• Monitor fabrication and construction operations and assist with risk assessments, lift plans and toolbox talks.
• Attends and participates as appropriate in Contractors safety meeting.
• Reports near misses and incidents immediately they happen and participate in incident reporting investigation and follow up.
• Stop work if unsafe to proceed.
• Look for work related hazards and report them to the site rep.
• Participates in organised safety walkabouts as appropriate.
• Participates in Risk Assessment development and monitors implementation.
• Ensures appropriate work permits are in place.
• Helps clarify SHES safety expectations to workers.
• Monitors effectiveness of site safety programs.
• Ensures contractor tools, equipment and temporary facilities are in a safe and sound condition and used correctly.
• Ensures good housekeeping practices are maintained.
• Makes suggestions on improving existing safety programs.
• Provide weekly and monthly reports regarding Site SHES performance, achievements, issues and concerns.
• Assist the SHES Manager as required.
Project Execution
• Assist, as directed by the SHE Manager with the implementation of all aspects of the HSE Management Plan and objectives on site.
• Undertake auditing, coaching and support of the vendors to assist them in achieving the high standards of SHE performance required by the project.
• Undertake auditing, coaching and support of sub-contractors at all construction and fabrication sites to assist them in achieving the high standards of SHE performance required by the project.
Core Competencies
• Relevant experience + Engineering / Science Degree OR extensive experience + HNC/HND Engineering
• Chartered engineering or working toward chartered status
• Good understanding of safety legislation
• Familiarity with offshore production operations and the hazards associated with them.
• Ability, attitude and behavioural qualities required to work in both large and small teams.
