The Inter-American Development Bank, the oldest regional multilateral development bank with $68 billion in assets, has recently consolidated its risk management functions into a new Office of Risk Management (RMG). The Office is seeking a talented, quantitative risk management professional to strengthen its risk management framework, as well as to support current and new strategic initiatives and programs of the Bank.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the development and implementation of advanced quantitative methods and models in the areas of risk management, capital management, asset-liability management, dynamic financial analysis, and other financial modeling projects in support of the strategic objectives of the IDB. The candidate will perform the following functions to strengthen the Bank's risk management framework:

* Measurement, monitoring and reporting of economic and regulatory capital requirements following established approaches.

* Quantitative analysis of capital requirements with the objective of developing recommendations for improved capital utilization.

* Design of advancements in methodologies and measurement of economic capital requirements as well as the implementation of their supporting models and systems.

* Participation in revisions of the Bank's capital adequacy policy and guidelines through drafting of documents and presentations to senior management.

* Monitoring and reporting of a broad range of advanced risk measures (such as stress testing, value-at-risk, risk factor sensitivity analysis, and other measures) to enable the Risk Management Office to have a comprehensive understanding of risk positions, market conditions, and the impact of new initiatives.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's degree in finance, business administration, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or a related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in:
* Applied knowledge and hands-on experience in determining economic and/or regulatory capital requirements (Basel II) for a financial institution

* Advanced mathematical modeling, quantitative finance, risk management, capital markets and derivatives.

* Experience with custom-built or commercial-of-the-shelf economic capital systems required, previous experience with using and/or implementing QRM software desired. Proficiency with PC-based software, i.e., Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.

Languages: Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of Spanish is desirable.

* Proven ability to design and recommend courses of action, based on accurate interpretation of the output produced by mathematical/financial projection models; combine mathematical, financial and system development knowledge and skills to create, maintain and utilize such projection models and databases; assist team members in the development, use and interpretation of such models; and draft well thought out, clear and concise documents.

* Ability to utilize knowledge of the international financial markets and financial instruments to address the financial risks of a multi-currency liquidity/lending portfolio through the application of strong quantitative and critical analytical skills.

* Knowledge of portfolio management concepts and leading practices in risk management methods, i.e., value-at-risk and stress testing and in the use of advanced quantitative techniques, such as, but not limited to, Monte Carlo simulation, optimization, stochastic processes, term structure modeling, and econometrics.

* Ability to independently formulate and draft balanced, well-reasoned recommendations and to present such recommendations persuasively to senior management.
