Area:                   Placement in one of four Country Offices in either: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sudan or Nigeria

Status:                Full-Time Unpaid Volunteer for 3-months: January 2010 – March 2010
Location:             Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sudan or Nigeria
Reports to:          Country Office Director and Country Director, and International Project Manager

THE POSITION: Women for Women International will be running a global campaign action for the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2010 in all ten countries where it works, and four volunteer Campaign Coordinators are sought to coordinate and implement activities in each of the following countries: Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Sudan or Nigeria. In return, you will gain invaluable experience of working on a high profile global campaign with committed colleagues and supporters on a dynamic women’s rights campaign. The Campaign coordinator will be based in one of the above countries and will support our local Country Office in preparing its campaign and communication activities in the run up to International Women’s Day, ensuring that the global plan is well developed and implemented locally. The specific objective is to ensure that a minimum participation of 100 participants is achieved in a way that draws positive attention to the mission of Women for Women International. With this celebration we aim to unite and bring women worldwide together, to join on bridges and show that they can build the bridges of peace for our future. It will also be the perfect opportunity to send a very powerful message that peace is possible and that women have the strength to join together to make it happen.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

    * Strong interpersonal skills appropriate for communicating effectively in a sensitive environment
    * Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and to exercise sound judgment in response to complex and sensitive situations
    * Energetic, motivated and enthusiastic team player who knows how to get things done
    * Excellent project and time management, initiative, flexibility, creativity and work ethic
    * Journalistic experience is desirable: able to write in clear and accurate English, interviewing and reporting skills
    * Basic photography and video skills are important
    * Strong interest in Women’s rights
    * Experience in or with one of the countries mentioned above is preferable but not mandatory

The specific responsibilities:

A. Logistics:

    * Identify a selection of appropriate locations based on symbolism, accessibility, security and cost. Upon confirmation of final location by Country Director, contact the relevant authorities and follow the required process to obtain the permits as necessary
    * Choose transport means & obtain equipment needed for the day
    * Identify any potential costs involved, suggest ideas to secure funding, obtain approval of Country Director and Project Manager for any expenses (irrespective of funding sources), manage event budget locally
    * Identify the potential risks & suggest ideas to manage them

B. Leadership & Teamwork

    * Follow the steps, suggestions and advice outlined in the campaign toolkit and work closely with the Country Office’s Director and Deputy Director to plan, organize and adapt the global campaign strategy locally
    * Identify any additional local staffing requirements necessary to execution
    * Agree with the Country Director on the local project team members (whether existing staff or staff to be hired on a temporary basis), roles and responsibilities
    * Follow the agreed project plan specifying the key tasks, owners and timelines, create a clear schedule of activities and manage weekly meetings to track the progress
    * Decide with the team the day activities (dance, music, speaker, banners, etc) and what you need to do to deliver these actions

C. Internal Communications

    * Work closely and arrange weekly catch up calls with the International    Project Manager based in London
    * Regularly interact with the campaign coordinators of other country offices through our group email address to share your experience, plans, ideas and questions

D. Content Capture and Distribution

    * Ensure good quality content (photos, pictures, quotes, stories) are captured prior to and during the day. Send them to the International Project Manager and once signed off, upload them on the Women For Women International’s website and U-tube
    * In liaison with the International Project Manager, brief and commission professional photographers and videographers based in-country, subject to budget. Whenever possible, negotiate pro bono fees

External Communications:

    * Work with the Country Director, the Deputy Director or appointed staff member to advise on the campaign communications
    * Support the Country Office to identify and contact key Media targets (National/local radio stations, national TV channel, national/local print newspapers)
    * Notify the media and facilitate the interviews with Women For Women International leaders and the celebrities at key moments on the bridge

F. Mobilization:

    * Provide advice and support to the Country team to help them identify and build active participation in the campaign
    * Set a realistic, specific and clear target for how many people you want to attend your event, contact each of them & get them to sign up
    * Provide guidance and support for the organization of pre-campaign workshops and meetings
