SUMMARY:
Agribusiness (Ag) stands out as a feasible business opportunity across all countries in which WfWI operates. It is part of WfWI’s Income Generation (IG) strategy for each country; aimed at improving the economic situation of the women we serve by expanding their opportunities for employment, self employment and sustainable income generation, and contributing to the overall food security of their families and communities. WfWI’s Ag program currently includes three commercial integrated farming pilots in Afghanistan, Rwanda and Sudan; small scale poultry in Nigeria, crop production in DRC and green house farming in Bosnia Herzegovina and Kosovo. In the coming year, we intend to replicate the commercial integrated farming initiatives in DRC and Nigeria and scale up the activities in Sudan.
WfWI is seeking to hire an Agribusiness Officer to provide additional technical support in the next phase of these growing agribusiness activities.
PURPOSE:
The Agribusiness Officer will support the Agriculture Specialist and the Ag staff in the country offices in the implementation of current and new Ag activities. He/she will assist in facilitating operations, identifying, developing and expanding agribusiness income generation opportunities for County Offices, program participants and graduates. Collaborate with the Ag Specialist in planning, developing, and facilitating comprehensive technical assistance, agribusiness market linkages, and agriculture extension support with emphasis on increasing profitability of agribusiness income generation opportunities.
The Ag officer will conduct site visits to Country Offices as needed. He/she works in close collaboration with other staff members of the Global Programs Team.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct agribusiness research to provide Global Program Unit with market information and analysis on donors, competitor/partner organizations, funding patterns and trends, and other information relevant to new business decisions and strategic positioning.
* Assist with general coordination and documentation of WfWI's Ag activities.
* Provide technical assistance for feasibility studies, project proposals and other fundraising and outreach materials.
* Draft/review/edit TORs/SOWs, implementation plans, project reports, concept notes, MOUs and partnership agreements, etc.
* Support communication and other Ag project visibility promotion efforts.
REQUIRED:
This should be considered a mid-level position. Qualified applicants will have a degree in agriculture or related area.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in agriculture or agricultural economics.
Three or more years experience successfully promoting increased production and marketing of agriculture products.
* 2 or more years of experience promoting improved crop and animal production practices.
* 2 or more years of agricultural extension experience and coordination of development programs with some experience in farmer cooperatives agricultural credit.
* 2 or more years of experience with value chains related to agricultural products/horticultural products and livestock.
Ideally, candidates will have had experience facilitating: Agribusiness, Marketing, Agro-processing, Post-harvest handling, Enterprise Development, Business Development Services, Business Linkages.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

* Demonstrated skills in creating project implementation plans and guiding their completion.
* Understanding of conflict environments.
* Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with individuals from wide backgrounds and stations.
* Excellent English writing skills.
* Knowledge of other languages (French, Arabic, etc.) a plus.
