The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is a globally networked research institute based in Africa. ILRI seeks to recruit a dynamic and competent Capacity Development Officer. The person reports to the Head of Capacity Strengthening. The overall purpose of the job is to coordinate Capacity Strengthening unit’s training/graduate fellowship activities, to participate in various CD activities with other ILRI themes, assistance in CaSt projects, like PENAPH etc, assist in resource mobilization and assist with cast publications and outputs.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include:
1. Maintaining a training database for Capacity Strengthening Unit and training related activities within ILRI. These include:
- Attachment Associates
- Student Associates
- Research Fellows
- Graduate Fellows (Individual Training)
- Group Trainings organized by CaSt and other Units
Will be also responsible for: Tracking resources allocated for Capacity Strengthening related outputs of ILRI (Training Modules, CD ROMs, Student Seminars, Student Theses)
2. Monitoring and Evaluation of training and training related activities
- Evaluation of training activities
- Progress (reports) monitoring of graduate fellows
3. Responsible for coordination of trainees monthly stipends
4. Responsible for scientific and students (trainees) Seminars/value added activities
- Maintains and manages records
- Facilitates Seminars
- Announces and facilitates scientific and student seminars
- Organize workshops/value additions to graduate fellowship program
5. Assists in the organization, coordination and implementation of group trainings
- Facilitates and organizes the training
- Prepares certificates for participants
- Keeps records of participants
6. Work towards development and implementation of ILRI strategy on Capacity Strengthening
7. Work with ILRI’s CaSt team in Addis Ababa as and when needed.
8. Manage the graduate and undergraduate fellowship programmes with ILRI and co-ordinate with HR, Finance and research
Themes/Operating Projects accordingly
9. Perform other duties related to CaSt activities that may be assigned by the Capacity Strengthening Unit Manager
Preferred Skills and qualifications:
- First Degree in Agriculture, life sciences, ecology or related fields
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
- Preferred training in management, communication, ICT
- Good administrative, communication and public relation skills, basic IT skills and ability to learn, improvise and implement various capacity development programs.
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to six months probation period, satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Salary and benefits will be in line with those provided within ILRI’s NRS scheme.
